Need help with .AVI movie

I am trying to watch a .AVI video on my computer, but it won't open. This is the message I get....

File Type: Movie File

File Extension: .avi

Description: This contains a movie



Can someone tell me where I can download the necessary software from a trustworthy website so I can watch the movie. I am not very familiar with this stuff. Thanks in advance.

 

try "media player classic"
then download K-lite codec pack
