Consider trying Tradestation or Multicharts. You can download a 30 day free trial of Multicharts. I've been using Tradestation for years. TS doesn't have a trial version but is free to use with an active trading acct. Both come with built-in strategies that can be changed and mixed with very little actual programming needed. Either one is a good place to start.

TS has a larger user base for additional indicators/strats. Both have Portfolio backtesting, etc. (new for TS). MC optimization is multi-core so it's faster. MC offers different broker/data combinations. TS is a platform/broker/data all rolled into one.

    Good luck :)

  2. Jesus Christ, it only took ten fucking years!

PFG Best is a better futures broker than tradestation. Tradestation's too expensive on stocks, and their futures all-in low volume aren't as good, either.

Goo where there is the most critical mass e.g. books, code examples. In this case TS MC Easylanguage - I learned by reverse engineering what others had written or starting with something somebody else wrote and modifying.

I agree. TS is under new management - Monex out of Tokyo. TS purchased Portfolio Maestro from RINA.

Who do recommend for stocks... IB?

I'm also testing MC with my IB account. Both have pluses and minuses.

There is no perfect solution. It depends on one's particular wants and needs.

latest release of tradelink bundles an ide called Glean.

Glean generates open source tradelink strategy code from point and click templates. simple strategies should take minutes, complex strategies might take a few hours depending on how well you know what you're doing.

  8. Yeah, IB's good for stocks, but for futures it's PFG.
