Need a new computer.. opinions?

  1. Ummm.... Just the one. (I says, kind of embarrassed)

I just don't want to get a POS that can't be upgraded if I want 5 monitors. Or add hard drives, etc. My computer knowledge was up to date in 2002, but since then... I guess I am most concerned about the questions I don't know to ask.

  2. If you want to run 1-2 monitors, any el-cheapo computer with a decent dualhead video card will do.

If you want to run 3-4, or 5-6, monitors... you need to be careful to pick a computer with a proper mobo which will support them.

It's unlikely you'll be able to "upgrade" an el-cheapo to run 6 monitors. If 5-6 monitors is a realistic possibility for you, you need to buy a computer with a proper mobo now. Suggest x38 or x58... or a gamer board with at least 2 PCIEx16 slots.

  5. thanks for replying.

How many PCI-E X16 slots on a T3500 mainboard? How many 290's will it support?

  6. Or, NVS 295s. As for computer, a good frame of reference is an i7, 930, on x58 mobo or equivalent for around $1200.

CyberpowerPC.com apparently still running their special... i7, 930, X58 mobo, 3G RAM, W7 Pro... for $954. If I were buying a new trading rig today, I'd at least look into this deal.
