So Peru drops all Covid restrictions including travel restrictions on November 1, 2022 -- and now their death rate per million at the top - admittedly Peru has been near the top for quite a while. First we should note the high death rate is primarily due to Peru's indigenous population which is poorly vaccinated living in remote rural areas with minimal medical systems.

It should also be noted that unlikely many other countries Peru attempted to properly track Covid. Peru recently went back and re-evaluated all of it's Covid death data which led to a great increase in the number of reported Covid deaths -- hence the rise in ranking to number 1. Note that WHO recently increased its estimate of world-wide Covid deaths to 15 million -- tripling it. Peru was one of the few countries to go back and attempt to re-evaluate the deaths which occurred and adjust their numbers.

Knowing the country has poor medical systems, a vulnerable population, and lacked vaccines in most of 2021 -- Peru did its best to put mitigation measures in place to preserve public health. This is something the government of Peru should be applauded for.

Tell us how Florida is doing. Florida Covid deaths are now 83,606. Florida for many months has been leading the country in raw and per-capita Covid deaths. Several counties in Florida have the honor as being labeled Covid Red in the past week.

Sure. I'll be happy to tell you. Florida has the third highest deaths in total of any state, but it also has the third highest population. So that makes sense. However, when you equalize for population (the deaths per 1M pop), Florida ranks #13, which means it outperforms 12 other states in its results - saying nothing for the fact that Florida also has the second highest elderly concentration in the country. So yeah, Florida is doing wonderfully.

  7. This is why statistics are mostly useless.

You basically pick how you want to aggregate the data and what metrics to use so you can make a chart and claim the data supports your bias. Look at the chart below..

Both the chart above and the chart below are correct, just depends on what you want the data to show so you know which data to use ...newsome and deSantis supporters clearly favor one chart over the other

statistics.. as formal way to lie :).

Once you take an econometrics class/statistics it becomes clear that statitstics is often confused with science and fact in my humble opinion.

This chart is absolutely correct, of course. The question, in my opinion is whether you would prefer the California result with all the vaccine mandates, lockdowns, mask mandates, business closures and school closures or whether you'd prefer the Florida result (which isn't far off in deaths per millions) with no closures (apart from the first month), limited mask mandates, no vaccine mandates, schools opened right away and minimal business impacts.

  10. That is not the statistics...that is.just saying whether you prefer one States approach over another State which is one's valid opinion. One can easily find stats to support an opinion which is the selective bias inherent in most statistics . In fact as proven here most people already have their opinion and simply find the stats that confirm what they already thought.

I didnt post the chart because I support that narrative..just showing how there is a chart for whatever you believe.

Stat numbers objectively are correct because they are actual numbers but how you arrive at then depends on the population size, sampling soze and selective criteria used to measure the output.

Which state handled covid better? That depends on who you ask... This country did not handle Covid well as we fractured into political and medical sides of the fence. Almost every expert in both fields were wrong at some point which is not surprising for a novel virus. So not surprising many States went extreme one way or the other with a bunch muddled in the middle.

But people can claim which state did better by simply looking for the stats that support their established opinion. No one handled this well.
