Pearl Harbor (lest we forget) Other reasons, including prior Presidential conduct under similar trying times, like Nixon, Bush I, Carter, Clinton, (Ford) in doing all they could to limit the abuse to the economy and country by price manipulation that is (so obviously) occurring now with fuel and fuel prices / availability..... So, other than "pure-ists" trying to rationalize why not, what are the reasons to justify "why"? After all, now we're asking the police to police the gas tanks, storage tanks, transport truckers and facilities from additional thefts due to higher prices being manipulated higher, After all, if the Oil Companies were NOT to blame, then why their sky high profits? Shouldn't they still be barely scraping by? After all, with the refineries being limited, and taking more than 4 years to come online, and being limited in production to less than 80%, thus keeping "prices at the pump" high and higher (predictably), hence the "manipulation arguement.... After all, with a relatively straight forward industry negatively impacting every facet of the economy and country, at what point does action become justified, radical action, if it even is radical? After all, what could have been worse than the last eight years of absentee management that has allowed a domestic power to subjugate all to their monopolistic practices and false information dissemination through the financial press and media? hmmmm
Excellent Commentary .......................................................................... Limitdown wrote After all, what could have been worse than the last eight years of absentee management that has allowed a domestic power to subjugate all to their monopolistic practices and false information dissemination through the financial press and media? ................................................................................. Limitdown, you nailed it....100% correct.... ............................................................................... Chavez has recently expanded his Nationalization efforts by having the state acquire large agricultural production, oil production, steel, food production, and cement....with others to soon follow.... The Nationalization of an asset takes it off the stock market capitalization valuation model.... The same assets on a Nationalization model are worth far less than the assets when priced in a stock market model.... Also the assets belong to the government, and are never shared with the population....If an employee works at the state firm, he will just get government pay....as will his children....never will they own the some of the asset or company that they build.... In the US system of capitalization, the assets are grabbed by less than 2% of the population....Of the US population....perhaps 2% own 80% of the assets..... Hard work, intelligence, loyalty, and innovation should be rewarded to workers that help build the companies.... The US capitalistic system needs to show a better distribution of ownership.....a lot better than 2% owning 80%.... Chavez basically has denegrated all potentially capitalistic assets in Venezuela, in that the values that could have been better distributed than 2% 80%.....are now locked up by the state....and progress will be totally negated by destroying the financial integrity of the country.... Bush on the other hand....is at the other extreme....by allowing 2% 80% to be just fine the way it is..... ................................................................................ It is my opinion that all countries should adopt a capitalistic model that better distributes the wealth by share ownership....whose shares are liquid and trade on an electronic stock exchange.... A man/woman builds a company....spends their life doing so...then they deserve shares.... A more appropriate capitalistic model would put all countries on the same page....
80-90% of oil production capacity is in the hands of nationalized state-run companies. How would nationalizing of relatively small players helped in any way? Second, where were all "the price manipulators" when one barrel went for 15 bucks? Regarding "evil obscene profits", as far as I know governments of all sorts take more money out of each gallon than evil oil corporations do.
Are you some sort of socialist nutcase? Nationalization doesn't work. It is the epitome of inefficiency wherever it has been or wherever it survives.
Our collective American experience in the 20th century during and before WWII is the subject case, and call all those, what did you say?, socialist nutcases? too. During those times, bold actions broke the monoplolistic practices of both the electricty and power companies for the collective good of the nation.... ship building exploded, remember the Liberty Ships?, farming practices were improved nationally..., road building and other industrial companies were established whether or not each state had a DOT (Dept of Transporatation), and this put hundreds of thousands to work for the first time.... TVA was another (so called Socialistic) model that has shaped the lives of the last 3 generations because of the bold (nationalistic) actions by the presidental authorities in behalf of the present and future of the American people, (Tenn Valley Authority).... ((for a short answer to the question of what was the TVA, and what did it do? see the documentary from your local PBS station (www.pbs.org), or search for it and get your copy) ----- In short, America has vacillated from what others called socialistic, to the other (so called right wing extreme) free market extreme as it saw fit thoughout its history..... But you knew that before you showed (your ignorance) your brilliance.... right? left? center?
personally, after "prices at the pump" crossed over $2.25 per gallon, I lost all feeling in my pocket, and its kinda feeling even worse now that those prices are over twice that amount in under 8 months of further manipulation.... so, ask me if I care......
so, what't to remember about Pearl Harbor? I just got back from Austraila, didn't you see my movie? I had the staring role in the commercial....
