    National Semi Reduces 3Q Sales Forecast, to a Sequential Drop of 14 Percent to 15 Percent

    SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Chip maker National Semiconductor Corp. said Monday it expects third-quarter revenue to post a steeper drop than previously expected due to lower shipments into the Asia Pacific distribution channel.

    The company projects a 14 to 15 percent sequential decline in third-quarter sales, implying revenue of $426.4 million to $431.4 million.

    In December, the company projected third-quarter revenue would drop 8 percent to 11 percent sequentially, implying revenue of $446.4 million to $461.5 million.

    Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect the company to post revenue of $455.1 million, with earnings of 22 cents per share.

    National Semiconductor is scheduled to post results for the period on March 8.

    Shares of National Semiconductor fell 31 cents to end at $23.32 on the New York Stock Exchange.
