I heard this on msnbc this am. Animal Shelters Gear up for Mass Adoption Day Saturday Hill's Pet Nutrition is sponsoring the event. The Kansas-based company is going to pay all the fees for the first ten adoptions at each participating shelter and will give every new pet owner a starter kit that includes food and tips to help people adjust as their new dogs or cats train them. Those fees vary widely depending on the shelter and the pet but generally range between 25 and 300-dollars. The primary focus of the event is to put a spotlight on shelters and rescue groups across the nation. While some animal support groups are concerned about people receiving free pets fearing people may not put much value on them, shelters say they aren't concerned because they'll be using their normal screening processes to filter out inappropriate adopters.
they'll be using their normal screening processes to filter out inappropriate adopters. --------------------- Hmnnn. I wonder if any of those "inappropiate adopters" have children. It would be interesting to know if someone is unfit to adopt a pet yet is a parent.
