So where are all the pictures of the "cages"? Because I see shadowed silhouetted images of fence outlines on the wall, and you see a leg on the other side of a chain fence, and an emotional tear jerker pick of a hand almost...pulling in despair at a fence: What a joke. Where else are you supposed to put people when they are detained? This is what "in cages" is meant to give as an emotional image: That's not what we have. We have detention centers. I would invite you to google and find out what it looks like in other countries that detain illegal immigrants. Hell, see what Mexico does.
to further illustrate, here is ABC Chicago's photo of mannequins in cages to represent the "kids in cages": https://abc7chicago.com/immigration-reform-demonstrations-detention-centers-kids-in-cages/5902586/ "The horrors at our border and throughout our immigration system are too often ignored by the public and politicians," Right. The horrors.
This is why it never ends. I show him an article where trump is quoted calling them cages, everyone involved recognizes they are cages then Tsing shifts to well those are not dog cages so they are not cages because he cannot stop arguing.
Who are you talking to? I'm right here. It's never going to end because you make up too much crap to suit a narrative. Here was my original comment: "Kids were never being "put in cages". Christ, you make it sound like they were picked up like stray dogs and put in crates." These are detention centers. You showed nothing about "cages". You gave me a Wash Po article that used the word - in quotes I might add - over and over. Don't blame me for your lack of reading comprehension skills and only hearing/seeing what you want.
You’re trying too hard to prove that there is a double standard in the media. Whether it’s about Covid or these stories. The fault I see of yours is that you are deep into right wing media and don’t understand that when you post this stuff others can see the obvious flaws in it. You’re a sad case.
Of course the fault you see is mine. You'd never backtrack on anything or admit error. That's just not your way. I'm not trying too hard to prove a double standard in the media. It's freaking easy, bro. And that's the point. Whether or not you think that "CAGES" are reality or bad or good or whatever (its a different argument) its all too easy to laugh at a slavish, lapdog media - that you buy into every day, I might add. If you think I'm a sad case, then I know I am on the right track. You're the antithesis of everything I want to stand for. At least, as you present yourself in this persona. You should probably put me back on ignore. It's not going to get any easier for you.
Sadder still is that he prides himself on his "objective" debating style and his "willingness" to keep an open mind.
OK, Democrats, you've had 35 days to replace the privately run detention centers for immigrants with unicorn petting zoos. Not done yet?? This is an outrage. Biden is locking up migrant children. Will the world still care with Trump gone? Flowers, butterflies and a rosy banner saying ‘Bienvenidos’ decorate the child detention site. Is that meant to fool us into thinking this is humane? https://www.theguardian.com/comment...ren-will-the-world-still-care-with-trump-gone is week, the Biden administration did the unthinkable. It reopened a Trump-era detention site for migrant children. The detention center, a reconverted camp for oil field workers in Carrizo Springs, Texas, is expected to hold 700 children between the ages of 13 and 17, and dozens of kids have already arrived there. This is an awful development, reminding me of some of the worst abuses of the Trump years. And while we obviously don’t know how this ominous development will play out in the long run, what we do know is this: unaccompanied migrant children deserve compassion, not detention. But rather than seeking out new and better solutions, the Biden administration is instead trying to sell us an image of a kinder, gentler imprisonment. How else are we to understand the words of Mark Weber, spokesperson for Health and Human Services (HHS), the agency that oversees the welfare of unaccompanied migrant children? Weber told the Washington Post that “the Biden administration is moving away from the ‘law-enforcement focused’ approach of the Trump administration to one in which child welfare is more centric”. That may play well as a soundbite, but how welfare-centric is it to place children in jail in the first place? And if you don’t think it’s a jail, you should know that the “unaccompanied teens sent to the Carrizo Springs shelter will not be allowed to leave the facility”, as reported by the news website BorderReport.com. (Lengthy article at above url) My take -- one month after entering office tell me where are you going to sent unaccompanied minors -- many of them taken over the border by coyotes (human smugglers) -- when you don't know quite where they came from and don't know what family they have in the U.S. This is going to take a while to sort out.
Close but not quite. Obama had a policy for detaining unaccompanied minors as there was a surge from Honduras if I recall due to gang violence. So yes, Obama put unaccompanied minors in cages while processed. This of course is a far cry from Trump's zero tolerance policy that separated kids from their parents and put them in said cages, expanding the concentration camp program as lo and behold families bring their kids w/them. This isn't debatable, we've got Sessions on tape smiling at the announcement and the "rescission" due to media backlash. Of course the separation policy continued, they just said accompanied minors were unaccompanied because ICE chose to disregard the claims of parentage or release them to family in the US. Move on to 2021, Trump appointed federal judge is upholding Trump policies and ignoring Biden's Obama-like approach (catch and release), ICE has gone full rogue and deporting w/o following executive orders and we now again have an unaccompanied minor problem. The policy is to use said camps/cages for the kids again as Biden is stuck w/court stoppage and there's no capacity. Whether these kids are unaccompanied or ICE is pulling the same separation BS when kids come w/parents is yet unknown. This of course gives the GOP "whatabout" ammo that in reality is apples and oranges
