My current holdings Long: ICE 63sh @229.22 SUM 600sh @25.71 MTD 50sh @326.00 STZ 200sh @117.52 FLT 77sh @156.85 Short: MU 450sh @19.01 Watchlist: HIFR ELLI SRCL FCAU AMBA TDG AVOL ODFL I do want to stress that I was stopped out of multiple names and lost money on several stocks before getting this portfolio to what it is today. So I am not the chosen one with nothing but green, I am disciplined though. I obsess over what is losing me money not what is making me money. Anyways, I hope this is of interest to some. Attached is a screen shot from my broker in case someone thinks I am making prices up:
Hitting my numbers beyond my expectations. I have built up some short positions in KGC and YELP. I trimmed my STZ position by 1/3 and closed out ICE. FIT ended up surprising me as well with a nice gain. ROI from my Oct 13 2014 start date is now 43.09%. Only 7% away from my goal of 50%! I ended up gaining a return of 4.2% for the week. The COMP and SPX returned 0.12% and 0.73% for the week. I don't think to many people can replicate performance like this without doing naked options or insane amounts of leverage.
Weekly update: I managed to outperform the market again this week. I think this is another spectacular week in that this was the worst week of the market since 2011(well thats what the CNN article says). My performance for the week came in at -3.5% compared to -7.2% and -5.5% for the QQQ and SPY. It was really strange in that the sell off was so intense that no matter how much I added to my short positions my long positions continued to slowly erode my portfolio. By Friday morning, I decided to start fresh and close all my positions and go long on 5 stocks. This is quite possibly the dumbest thing ever, but I am convinced that the names I bought have a great deal of potential value to be unlocked. I took long positions in the following stocks: FCAU @14.86 2000sh HII @112.35 160sh ELLI @75.51 200sh ODFL @69.08 200sh LGF @37.07 500 sh These names have spectacular growth potential and I am willing to take a 9% stop loss on them so next week will be volatile, but when you've got the groove you stick with it. I will be looking to take limited profits on this buy clip as the road will remain rocky, most likely until after the rate hike(or lack thereof). I believe I have limited exposure to commodities and I firmly believe that oil prices will not have a large impact on the auto or trucking industry(which is why I bought the best companies in both those spaces that I could find ODFL and FCAU). I also believe that the real estate industry is heavily fragmented and could use some serious tech updates which is why Elli Mae is so appealing and a great disruptor company. Lions Gate film is unique in that they are willing to create content on platforms such as Netflix(Orange is the New Black for instance) and Hulu while alot of their competitors remain chained to their old school "Cable provider". Finally Huntington Ingalls piqued my interest after reading through their earnings report where they quietly mention how they basically have a monopoly in the ship carrier/submarine building. Apparently no other company has the capacity/infrastructure to do what they do and so as long as the Navy remains an important part of our U.S. Defense I think HII has a great future.
Weekly Update: Just giving some performance metrics. Not my best week. On Friday I decided to add a short on F to my portfolio. I took a terrible fill on it at 13.56. Besides the F-150, the company has nothing going for it. My system did a flash a technical buy point so I will have to wait and see. Overall portfolio performance for the week came in at -.20%(Yuck!) and the S&P500 came in at +.95% so I definitely need some work. The lag is coming from my position in FCAU and a bit on F. The two positions are essentially hedging each other out but not in my favor. I will just let my stops do the work and if it plays out then great. What is everyone here buying? Hopefully not a newsletter/website to a stock service that charges a monthly fee...j/k its cool if you into that stuff...but seriously none of them are legit.
I have not posted here in a while mostly because I am studying for the PE exam and balancing my job as a Civil Engineer. Here is an update on my PnL. It has not been easy for me at all, but I am still hanging in there. I hope this is of interest to someone.
