Man, you cannot finalize your view of the whole TNG canon without watching the movies. That includes Voyager, Enterprise and DS9 series. Hell, the movies even led a story line into a new series about Data's demise. Data died in Star Trek:Nemesis, but his essence was captured in the end by his "twin" B4. B4 is the one who finally tells Picard to terminate him in Star Trek Picard in I believe the second season.
PARA unfortunately missed the goals, and the stock lost about 25% on the 4th when it reported its Earnings. My small investment of some Jan-2024 LongCall options of course lost as well, but since then it recovered halfways as I doubled down, ie. bought some more contracts at now cheaper prices... The latest stock quotes with the chart of the last 5 days:
The problem with Paramount stock now is that isn't a growth company and since they slashed the dividend so severely value investors have no reason to own it either. Who is the marginal buyer? It can't be taken over without the consent of the Redstone family holders. You basically have to wait for the streaming to be profitable like Netflix but that requires a lot more viewers. Since the Netflix model is a low cost model for good enough shows/movies it works for them but are these studios willing to adopt that model? I haven't any signs of it even from Disney. In a world of TV & Films merging into a streaming model Netflix will be hard to beat.
As I wrote in the OP, my main motivation was that the company recently had begun to expand to other countries. Then the subscriber numbers of course should rise. But it seems the problem was somewhere else. If you inspect the chart: from '09 to '14, ie. 5 years long, it was a big growth company rising steadily from 4.20 to above 67.
Yeah expansion into non-US markets would work for them. It is culturally tricky though. I think European expansion should work but Asia & Middle East & Africa have different cultures. I can tell you since I am originally from north India, Amazon & Netflix push into India and their original content was not good. Neither Amazon nor Netflix understand the Indian culture. They assume American type shows can just be localized but there is little overlap with the American & Indian cultures. Netflix pretty much abandoned making original content for India. Another example is that Star Wars was never popular in China so the sequels did not do well in China.
