There is a strong chance you're a fcuking hand puppet. You wouldn't know a good trade if it fell from the sky, landed on your face, and wiggled.
I´m enjoying the heck out of Ryan. I spent the past two years, from the experts, to the hidden amateurs, criticizing my learning process, slow as it is. I have been insulted and told so many various ways of trading. Only ATTICUS had the guts to post his equity balance one time. ( making $20,000 a month at that time) Anyway, I am chortling in my soup. As RYAN comes on here and confounds EVERYBODY using their pet strategies and standard book learning rules, by earning 555% in the last three months. I did look his strategy up. It is called BEHAVORIAL TRADING, and those that do it, are making fabulous amounts of money. Not too many people do it though as it goes against all the trading lore, posted on here by the diehards. It is a diversified method of trading, more like using a shotgun with bird pellets. You also use ALL YOUR ACCOUNT practically every week. Takes intimate knowledge with stocks, which RYAN has from 5 years of trading earnings in stocks. Just making the switch to options which give more leverage. Violates all the rules put on over the last two years, by the professionals. I just LUV to see his equity balance on here climbing like a space shuttle. I´m trying to adapt and test different variations of what he is doing on here to my own ideas. I couldn´t do what he is doing though, lack the background intimacy with stocks and earnings. There may be however, a way to adapt this to some graphical way of trading. In the meantime KEEP IT UP RYAN! You are a champ!
That was week to date. The month was 105k. And I concur; Ryan has posted the vast majority of trades in R/T and/or prior to the reports. We're cheering for you, and don't entertain the sim-traders questioning your trading.
this is not something you can replicate every earnings season. this earnings season just happend to fall at the right time in a bull market phase where you got these gaps. this will not happen very often. most of the time it will be a crap shoot.
atticus, "I have to ask, what in the world does one do with that much money?" (wine, women and song?) Jeff
And of course he doesn't need to do so. The only issue I have is with the utilization. He's using a large % of his net liq in correlations approaching 1. I would want to net (to zero delta) my bull and bear bets as much as possible.
Nine_Ender ..... You have brought up a valid point. The AAPL trades during the last week or so were not posted in real time, some updates were not posted until the next trading day. I noticed the PCLN earnings trade was also confusing, and it is hard to follow this thread with all the noise. But I do believe the trades are being made as posted. I give ryanpatrick 110% for answering almost every question he gets and I'm sure ET is a major distraction for him, hence the occasional delayed updated. "horrendous strategy" might be a tad harsh. In my opinion AAPL is past due for a correction and perhaps those trades were a week early, in hindsight everything is 20/20. I thought for sure AAPL was going to pullback during the iPad news release last week.
My point is when you are trading options directionally within 3 days of expiry, you should have a very strong opinon on that direction. You wouldn't pull a 180 degree turn within a few hours without major news. I happened to agree with Ryan yesterday that AAPL was going to touch $600 ( I was thinking as much well before he posted it ). However, if you believed that, why on earth would you ever touch $585 puts for $9 ? That is why I questioned his trade. It was shocking to me that he bought the calls given his original stated strategy. If its real, well, so be it. The strategy is not good because there was no plan. People can disagree with me all they want, its an opinion.
Wondering if anyone has opinion on NDX nearing a top. I have been around markets in the 80s and 90 - until 2001 and have seen incessant upside that never abates until grossly "oversold" (whatever that is) Just curious. Further rather than play NDX is APPL a better proxy for downside if you think late March- April will see selling Thanks (Good going Ryan - I'm gonna have you manage my 401 + you started one of best threads ever on ET)
