If you look at history GOOG has gone down in price over 80% of the time after it reports earnings in Jan. GOOG just missed earnings and is down over $50 after hours. Sorry about that guys but no one can see the future especially during earnings season. I hope you are using excellent money management skills.
Yeah! The Day Trader bit, has crimped my style of trading as well. I figured he must be rich, with over a $25,000 account to risk? http://tradingoptionsfordummies.blogspot.com/
earning play is a kind of gambling. like buy a lottery. I bought GOOG 690 call and 590 put yesterday, just glad barely make some. bought AAPL put 420 at 0.13, sold it at 0.6, that is a quick breakdown play. from this, I feel better use chart to trade, not gamble blindly. my ebay earning play ending badly, two side get killed. late today I bought 31 call at 0.5, recouped my loss. do not need gamble, always use charts/technical to guide.
If you read - and understand - the OP's posts you will learn that he is not day trading and his account is below $25,000.
Ohhhhh! Okay. I just perused back a half dozen posts. To make $300 on a trade, he has to be doing a good bit of his account size I would think? Then what do I know. Not even aware of the price of the stock options, as I stick to indexes. Just seems he trades awfully fast? I try for one or two trades per week. Does not always work out that way though. What I want is a very HIGH WINNING RATIO of wins to losses. Especially in a low VIX number like now. Since what you can make is limited in the indexes to about 5 to 7% in an overnighter, or same day. Need higher volatility to get the 20% and 30% profits. Or more!
Big losses...-762.95 on PH and -702.95 on on GOOG spread put me back to 3270.27. I'm fine with that, back in the stock days I would have lossed -$3000 on those same trade. Cutting my losses in half using options, which was my goal. I'm already thinking about VMW. Or maybe TPX? Got some plays in mind already. The coming week looks perfect for some killer trades. Make or break week.
5 contracts? Crazy? I went with 3 spreads total cost about $700....and this is a cash only account....so not getting flagged a and most positions are actually held over 1 or more days....APOL was held for over a week.
This is my options account, if I lose it all, it will be a 2700 experiment. If I hit my target of $18,000, then I'm sticking to this and moving all accounts over to this.
