Here's a calendar for Falcon. PCLN mar30/APR20 700 from 10.00. Cover at 14.00 any time prior to Mar30 (last trading day on the short put).
Whhhhaaaat! You still talking to me ATTICUS? (Grin!) Will look that PCLN LONG STRADDLE UP. I read up on your short gamma comment. Turns out it was dynamic hedging. I vaguely remember doing that with Don a short while back. Forget now what it was about. Kind of adjusting Delta´s as I recall and it didn´t work too well, as I remember at the time. One of my puzzles this morning in trying to figure out premiums, was that QQQ was V = 15 but the stocks VZ and CL were like V = 3 or 4. Have no idea what that means? But I adjust the Vol figure to get the premium in the option calculator on indexes. Got a fill on the QQQ order, and have just calculated the target premium for my sell order. Can´t sell today as that would be day trading, so it will have to wait until tomorrow anyway. Disconcerting, my nice pretty pattern on the chart, disappeared and now a muddle there, where once it was a clear and bright as shiny brass. Yikes!
Whoops! Sorry old boy. Got my stuff mixed up. I meant the ???? Calendar. I checked the chart and I show things turning down a bit. So do I do the Calendar in PUTS? I would do so by choice, but perhaps I´m missing something here?
My mistake ATTICUS. I went back to re-read your post and you did say PUTS. When I copied on scratch paper, I never mentioned it. My confusion. I apologize. Okay I´m going to do this one contract in CASH and see what happens. Never entered a Calendar before, see if TOS lays it out for me?
Ran into trouble trying to enter my first calendar with TOS First time, it refused the order said it was UNDEFINED. Second time it gave me an April May when I wanted an April March. Didn´t FILL, so I was able to cancel it. The undefined I expect was because I thought I needed to subtract the one in April bought with the one in March5,12 entry for a weekly sold. Anyway I did the subtraction, which was $4.10 Not sure now if I did it wrong, or it just defaulted to April, May? Anybody on here familiar with entering a calendar in TOS? I´m trying to enter April bought and March Weekly sold. I am guessing it should work like any spread and you subtract the premiums from each other in the option chain and enter that as your limit order spread.
AARRGH! Been back and forth with the TOS help desk. Seems I have to click on the sell side first, then calendar puts. Supposed to automatically do the equivalent in April. Been going back and forth with the help desk. Think I know how to do it, but sweating and getting scared. Going to take a break from this.
I am not referring to gamma-trading when referring to short gamma. It's to classify the trade as "short" the price distribution on the underlying. If you're short gamma you are always short realized volatility (at the moment(s) you're short gamma). I would normally state "short vol/options" but long calendars are long vol and short gamma. Maybe the options forum needs a sticky with common short and long gamma positions.
