couldn't find the link before but here it is on IBM's system http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=14993
My guess is that this system will be 30% more than the Tyan system, and offer no advantages. But we will have to wait and see... Thanks for the informative post. nitro
Finally, Tyan announces the Quad barebones system based on this MB: http://www.tyan.com/products/html/tx46b4882.html This thing will go like hotcakes in the server market. I am a little hesitant to get it since often these things have bios or lack of driver support, but it will be hard to resist. This is the most powerful system for the "poor man" on the planet. nitro
Aw, cmon, go ahead and get it. I'm curious: did you call and get prices for the barebones system anywhere?
I found late today, and people were gone already. I will find out Monday what the cost of this barebones is, but I am pretty sure the barebones is in the mid $2k. Add four 8xx Opterons for about $800 a piece, and say 4GB of DDR400 ECC RAM and HDs, and you are at about $7000. If I get it, I will start out with two opterons and 1GB of RAM, for an out the door cost of about $5000. Quad Xeon systems prices should collapse soon. nitro
Wow! Never thought I'd live to see the day that you could get that kind of horsepower available to Everyman...
