My longshot is

  1. VMC up strong again! This dog is killing me. Arrrgh! Other than that, it's all good. Funny how you can have 5, 10, 15 good trades going and focus on the one bad one. Don't know if I'll ever get past that. Seeking perfection is an obstacle to growth.

  2. Out of HOOK, good for about an .80 cent pop. Nice short term trade. And what do ya' know, that option trade is working out. Think I'll hold on to that for awhile and see if I can give it all back.:p Other than that, kind of a beatdown today. Better be hedged somewhere.

  3. Hi Captain, This has been an incredibly helpful thread. I was wondering if you could create a Tumblr or Blogger account (linked to Twitter and hooked up with Disqus) and throw up your thoughts on there. You could update it whenever you want. It doesnt have to be a daily thing. Blogger is quickly updated through Livewriter and Tumblr is just a no-brainer.

  4. Time for another longshot, but I must give this call a giant thumbs up. Huge move over the last year. Great call!

Ok, I'm in BIOD. Many got burned in this during the 08 crash and burn of this stock. Since then it's pretty much gone sideways, give or take. News is much better now, and while it has it's haters, I see upside over the next few months. Buy it here, mid 4's and selling Dec. Calls of offset the downside.
Still like ANRA and QCOR. Selling more of CFW, but holding some. Out of those VMC options with a loss. Holding LDK. Sold the GLD Calls last week for a small profit.

One more thing. Spreads are really stupid on BIOD during the first 10-15 minutes. Let it settle.

  5. So why BIOD? On the off chance that someone might be interested, there is a method to my madness, and BIOD fits what I look for in a long-shot trade.
As the chart will illustrate BIOD took a massive hit a couple years ago. That's one thing I look for. Second thing I look for, did it survive with some strength? In this case yes. Then I'm looking for a "reasonable" channel for an extended period of time.
Once I find that I start the DD on the company itself to see if there's anything worth looking at in the coming months. If the chart is a match, the company looks like a survivor, and there's some news of substance expected over a 1-6 month period, I'll take a position. I like to take a big enough position in which I can trade around a core. Say I have 500 shares, I'll use 200 of those as traders as time goes on.
The 64 dollar question...when do I sell. I have no set dollar amount. I evaluate every position I have daily and grade their performance. I have a watch list of up and comers and if I think one of those up and comers looks better than the weakest stock I hold, I'll start dumping the weak one and buying the new up and comer. So while I may love BIOD today, as it falls on my performance list,(they all do eventually), I will trade out of it as I fall in love with another.
That's pretty much it and you'll see most all of my trades display those qualities to some degree. When I get away from that well proven method(since 1998 for me) and attempt to reinvent the wheel, I usually get my ass handed to me. The latest example being VMC, or whatever the fuck that symbol was. That bitch is dead to me.:p

  6. Expect to take a hit today on BIOD.

    Item 8.01. Other Events.
On August 20, 2010, Biodel Inc. ("Biodel") was informed by Albany Molecular Research, Inc. ("AMRI") that AMRI had received a warning letter, dated August 17, 2010, from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (the "FDA") in connection with the FDA's inspection of AMRI's pharmaceutical manufacturing facility located in Burlington, Massachusetts. AMRI acquired the facility as part of its June 2010 acquisition of Hyaluron, Inc. Hyaluron is one of the two contract manufacturers that produced vials of the finished product included in Biodel's new drug application (the "NDA") for VIAject. Biodel expects that, consistent with FDA practice, a copy of the FDA's warning letter will be posted on the FDA's website within one to two weeks.
AMRI informed Biodel that the FDA inspection that resulted in the warning letter was unrelated to the review of Biodel's NDA for VIAject, but rather was related to the review of another sponsor's product candidate. According to AMRI, until the violations are corrected, AMRI's Burlington facility may be subject to additional regulatory action by the FDA, possibly including the withholding of approval of new drug applications.
Biodel has previously disclosed that it does not intend to commercially launch VIAject until a disposable pen version of the product is approved and that it intends to submit this pen to the FDA for review in early 2011. Biodel has also previously disclosed that it is working with Wockhardt Ltd., its second contract manufacturer producing finished VIAject product, to develop the disposable pen for use with VIAject and that it intends to conduct the majority of its future VIAject manufacturing with Wockhardt. As such, even if the issues raised by the FDA's warning letter related to the AMRI facility result in a delay in the approval of the VIAject NDA, Biodel does not believe that the letter will have any long-term impact on its commercialization plans for VIAject.

  7. Just in case anyone cares I have some follow up on this BIOD deal. Apparently this is rather old news and appears to be a non-issue. Today's drop is probably due more so to overall market action than anything else, but this kind of crap doesn't help. It goes without saying, trading small bio-tech in not for the faint of heart. A small article below provides some explanation.

Ok, this is funny, I looked up this stock and its basically ( if not already ) insolvant. It was already bleeding money in 2008 if not when this post was put up. So on what basis was this "call" made ?

Ok, somehow the "$10 stock in the next 24 months from drilling alone. " hasn't translated. In fact, its around $1 for the whole company.

    Sadly ???

I looked at the first few posts of this thread you guys were pumping some real losers. How on earth can you claim it was a "profitable" thread when your initial post has a stock down 99.99% since you recommended it ?

We're not talking a lifetime here, its only 3 years.
