My (JT) Index Options Trades

Discussion in 'Journals' started by torntech.com, Aug 1, 2002.

  1. Let's see how quickly I can implode/explode my brand new 2000$ IB account. haven't seen any options journals around, so this might perhaps be of interest to someone. This is my journal...read with caution...don't follow my trades unless you are into S/M.

  2. would you mind putting in the time of day for your entries and exits so I can follow it better ? I like index options myself.

    Trade 4:
I placed a buy order right around 10AM when both the OEX and QQQ "spiked up" slightly. At 10:06 CBOE experienced an "internal network failure", and my order got stuck. The CBOE system was up again at 10:18. I tried to cancel my order, since the index continued down, but was not able to cancel my order due to the network failure. About 30 minutes later I got I confirmation that my order was filled. Bailed at 12:24 with a 170$ loss.

Almost felt like quit trading for the day. Made a nice italian style dinner, and opened a bottle of nice Bordeaux.

    Trade 5:
QQQ's in lower trading range, and expecting the QQQ to be at least slightly positive during Mondays trading day. Will be satisfied with the smallest gain.

    Today's lession:
OEX options only traded at CBOE ==> CBOE sucks ==> Don't trade OEX

Date IB Diff Diff day % Diff tot %
    01-Aug-02 1 981.54
    02-Aug-02 1 936.61 -44.93 -2.3% -2.3%
    03-Aug-02 1 618.00 -318.61 -16.5% -18.3%

Anyone know if its possible to get the "tabs" right for better-looking tables?

Have a nice weekend everyone. Tomorrow I'm going house hunting.

  4. Anyone got some input to which options exchange that provides the best execution speed?

I can't understand the delays with CBOE. Once I place an order with IB, it could take up to 5 minutes before it shows up on the market.

Also please note the IB chat in regards to the CBOE network outage earlier today.

  5. Start the table with [ code ] and end it with [ /code ], without the spaces of course. Play around with it in Preview Reply before actually submitting. More info here also :

  6. torntech,

I think this journal has a lot of promise and could prove very interesting, however I'm finding it very hard to follow what you're doing. Perhaps it is because I don't use IB options trading and therefore find the notation a little confusing.

  7. Anyone wants some $$$? Well I'm handing it out on the OEX trading floor.

    Trade 5:
Well the QQQ's were shortly slightly higher today, but didn't get my order filled.

    Trade 6:
    QQQ and OEX heading higher.

    Trade 7,9,10 & 11:
Played scalper to learn the market better.

    Trade 8 & 12:
Played scalper not so successfully, didn't get filled, and followed the market down. Hopefully we will get a bounce back up tomorrow.

    Today's lesson:
Interesting development of the indexes and options 1/2 hour before close. Should be able to take advantage of.

    Regarding fridays's lesson:
Executions were better on CBOE today, and their system didn't go down.

AAAintheBeltway: Please specify what you think is confusing with the notation. I'm using a regular Excel sheet, so it's easy to fix.

Mr Subliminal: Thanks for the tip! Much better now.

I will be on vacation (and time to reflect on last couple days) tomorrow, and unable to post. Back Wednesday.

    /JT

  8. the table is much better, thanks.

  9. Had a nice 1 1/2 day vacation, although I wish I would have stayed in touch with the market. Yesterdays trades were done using GTC orders placed Monday.

  10. torntech,

Ok, I can follow the spreadsheet fine, my problem was with the first couple of posts. Is your strategy simply going long calls and puts? What do you use to determine when to enter and exit?
