Very interesting! I have bought on the BID and sold on the ASK for as long as I've been at IB -- 12 years? And while yeah, every 6-12 months requires a TWS/screens rebuild (usually at the *most* inadvisable time possible...), it's usually not the end of the world. But curious as hell -- just an hour ago, I went to exit some positions for Friday -- and while the written spread was Buy at BID, Sell at ASK, for the individual legs, it was Buy at ASK, Sell at BID. What the helllllll?
I don't think I can go back. I'm using the stable version. Not only did it wipe all my presets, but when I re-create and save them, they get wiped out every time I logout. Glad (in kind of a sad way) to hear I am not the only one..
I'm not too familiar with TWS, but do remember that there is a setting called "save settings on exit". Are you sure you have ticked that box?
Of course you can go back - if you still have the old stable version. It seems that the new stable version does not save the presets in the tws.xml file, as the older versions did, but somewhere else. That's why you lose your presets after logout. Unfortunately IB does not provide links to the older versions of TWS even when the new ones have issues, which I find very stupid. Some years ago I had another issue with TWS and I went back and used an older version of TWS for about two years until I got a message saying that the version I was using would no longer be supported. Does anybody know where to find older versions of IB TWS? After some search I found an older version available to download from Ninja Trader site, but it is a rather old version of TWS (960.2g).
...just to chime in, there is also "Save Settings as...._________" for additional back-ups. I Save Settings and Save Settings as... 2-3 times a day, in case of a power outage, TWS problem, whatever. HobbyTrading's notion about whether to take "Stable" and download it AND not (co-)save settings to IB is a good one, too -- you'd want to try both ways, since we don't know where the save-issue/FAIL is -- whether they mess it, or both?? My trades right now are very simple -- no brackets or follow-ons or anything. Except for Buy-on-BID/Sell-on-ASK, that's about it. For someone whose trades were more involved?? (Or, 'where the market is taking me right now...'????) I'd be pissed, worried, and probably looking for another broker: this is not a minor issue.
I was always wondering: how many people at IB use TWS? What led me to this question is the fact that the present version of stable TWS that has this issue has been online for almost a month now - which means that not so many people are complaining! I think that most of the veterans at IB have built their own solution to TWS using their API. Anyhow, IB support is not good at all and the quality has been steadily decreasing over time. It seems they outsourced their support to some people with a very poor knowledge of the IB software.
I wish, I can do so. DAS is really expensive tool ! I have to pay $200 per month which is not convenient solution !
Considering customer acquisition costs, I would think it would be relatively cheap to add a few lines of code to enable more options (like being able to change colors in the market maker box) on the IB platform.
SO!!! First I noticed that my presets for individual options were *reversed* to the (stupid) default -- but strangely not my written combo orders... Now, I noticed that dead stuff that I pruned over the last couple of days (rolling futures-related) was not pruned, but worse, the additions of a whole raft of S&P500-related etfs, which I had gathered, arranged, annotated, and put in a good afternoon getting Goldilocks' *just*right* --- the whole page is gone. Now, I'm having some desktop issues right now -- first time in 5? years. It could be a missed save there. At the same time, my internet provider has gotten wonky this week -- a rare occurrence there, too!! But I am so careful about multiple saves through the day, JUST FOR THIS TYPE OF DEAL. I checked on Save&Exit under Global Config, and did not notice anything arry, but every day for the last 5 years, I have to re-select DON'T SHOW GROUP BUTTONS on BookTrader. Every. DAY. So, ...... yeah. I'll rebuild tonight, and see what tomorrow brings. But given the changes that I make to my TWS DAILY, this would be a real SHIT DEAL from IB. And for whosever counting, this would be the second major BOMB of a so-called "stable release" in a row. What. The. Fuque.
