Hi TonyNYC - I just stumbled across EliteTrader and read your journal. I registered just to comment but I might try to see if I can start posting my own journal here. Your trouble with the PDT rule reminded me of a rough period I went through earlier this year, when I day traded my account to below the PST threshold and had to sit out five weeks while waiting for my remaining holdings to appreciate back up to $25k. But eventually it did, and later I was able to add some savings to my account to provide some cushion. Last month I started keeping a daily journal at tradinglogblog.wordpress.com. If you have some spare time (since you can't trade, heh) and need some reading material, check it out. I'm no guru and am trying to figure things out myself.
Took a break from trading, break from everything, kept my losing position opened (Short DXPE 800 shares), checked on it periodically, was down over $4,000 at one point, broker auto liquidated 100 shares on 8/15 Got back to trading today, closed out the remaining 700 shares of the DXPE short for a loss of only $17.29 Shorted CAR for a gain of $136.44 Net $119.15 in 4 hours of trading.
sorry to ask for some precisions: * during the 4hrs, you were down $4,000 , aka you had a floating pl of -4000$ * during the 4hrs, you closed with a realised profit od 119.15$? Am I reading right?
The short position DXPE I opened on 8/10 was down $4,000 at one point while I took a break from trading, 100 shares were auto liquidated by the broker on 8/15 for a loss of $416, today was my first day of trading in over a month, the position recovered in that time, I closed it out today for a loss of $17.29 and I had a gain of $136.44 on my one position which I opened and closed today, net realized was $119.15 in 4 hours, account all cash now for Monday.
I had a quick read at your thread. If you can just keep posting honestly, your thread is going to be very instructive.
