Let's take our mind off the trading for a while and watch exciting and motivating movies about traders. I’ve collected some of the best films about traders. Watching these films you will not just have a great time, but also take out something useful for yourself.

    The Big Short

    “This Is a True Story”

It was released on November 12, 2015.

The film is based on the best-selling book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine” by Michael Lewis about financiers who made millions during the global economic crisis of 2007-2008.

The film involves such bright actors as Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling. In 2016, this film won the Oscar award 2016 for the best adapted screenplay.

    The Wolf of Wall Street

    “Earn. Spend. Party.”

Film tells about Jordan Belfort, his ups and downs in business and personal life. The film is based on the memoirs of Jordan Belfort, who founded one of the largest brokerage offices in 1987, but later was convicted of money laundering and a number of other financial crimes.

But later he coped with alcohol and drug addiction, wrote two books and now lectures on how to achieve success.

Watching the movie you will see the impact of money on life, how they can change a person.

The film features Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, Jonah Hill as his business partner and friend Donnie Azoff, Margot Robbie as his wife Naomi Lapaglia.

    The Pursuit of Happyness

“Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something…You want something, go get it.”

The film is based on real events. The life story of the founder of the brokerage company “Gardner & Co”, Chris Gardner, a single father who passed through the difficulties before opening his own brokerage company.

Coincidentally, he had to live with his 5-year-old son on the street. But he did not despair. This film is highly recommended for watching, as it perfectly motivates for successful work and not to give up whatever happens.

Will Smith stars as Gardner, and Smith’s son Jaden Smith co-stars as Christopher Jr, Gardner`s son.

    Margin Call

“Be First, Be Smarter, or Cheat.”

The film takes place during the financial crisis of 2008. Events unfold within 24 hours in one of the largest investment banks, the prototype of which was Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc. which went bankrupt in 2008.

Thanks to the calculations of an employee selected for redundancy, top managers of the organization recognize that the financial collapse is expected and the crisis is inevitable. They have a little time to decide whether to tell everyone about the beginning of the crisis or to try to sell the stocks in order to save the company’s money.

It can be said that this film is an attempt to show a common viewer how the financial crisis began.

The cast features Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto and others.

    Wall Street

    “Every Dream Has a Price”

The main film about traders in the cinematography history. Events unfold in New York. Bud Fox is an ambitious guy, eager for big money. He meets Gordon Gekko, an influential representative of the exchange market. It is he who helps Fox to succeed and to get rich.

This film is still considered to be the most successful one shot on this topic. A story tells what leads to a thirst for big money.

The starring role was played by Charlie Sheen, the role of the financial magnate, Gordon Gekko, – by Michael Douglas.

    Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

    “Money Never Sleeps”

Sequel to the famous “Wall Street” movie, filmed in 1987. It was shot by the same director but in a more modern way.

The events of the film precede the world financial crisis of 2008. At the beginning of the movie, Gordon Gekko, served for fraud came out of prison. He becomes a partner of the young trader Jacob Moore, who helps Gordon to repair the relationship with his daughter Winnie. Gordon, in turn, helps Jacob.

It stars Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Carey Mulligan and others.

    Limitless

“Everything Is Possible. When You Open Your Mind”

This film tells about superhuman abilities. The main character of the film, Eddie, a struggling writer, managed to become a real superman thanks to the secret tablets NZT. Unusual tablets turn his life around. In a short time, he made a huge success on the stock exchange. But the tablets are not so simple, they have a side effect …

I advise you to watch this film at least because of the exciting plot and excellent acting of Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.

And what are your favorite movies about traders?

With the only caveat is that this guy is not that great of a trader. Didn't he create a fund and embezzle his client's funds?

Lew was the real deal, an 800 pound gorilla who made millions in the S&P pit. He didn't adapt all that well once the pits died.
