  1. US backs Muslims in cartoon dispute

"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.

"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."

But the United States, which was founded by immigrants fleeing religious persecution, has previously spoken out against publications offensive to believers of other faiths.

"Anti-Muslim images are as unacceptable as anti-Semitic images, as anti-Christian images or any other religious belief," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.

  2. Would it be correct to suggest, stuff all of the muslims protesting (thats what they call it) have actually seen the cartoons in question, and are taking action on the basis of other peoples opinions?

No surprise there arent to many islamic stand up comedians.

  3. Illiterate ragheads think the same way as illiterate southerners. The majority of the time, these mindless drones do not have a clue as to what their leaders are telling them to vote for.

  5. Kind of ironic, muslims are enraged over a 'blasphemous' cartoon of Mohammed, right-wingers are enraged over flag burning and want a constitutional amendment to ban it. What's the difference?

  7. Interesting fact : most of the violent anti-european protest in Palestine is from Fatah paramilitary groups, not Hamas.

Hamas is staying surprisingly calm, probably because they know they have difficult and complicated negotiations with the UE coming up.

Since Fatah have nothing to lose, they are trying to gain some support back from the population. Also they probably wouldn't mind a failure of the Hamas-UE talks, which would make their comeback on the political scene much easier.

    Politics...(sigh):(
