Why the fixation on day trading? Swing trade until you increase your account to 25K then if you still feel day trading is the way to go then you'll have enough. If you insist on day trading then with only 3 trades per account a week you will have to be super picky with your trades. That in itself is not a bad thing.
Open an account at a different broker. I am not sure how 2 accounts at the same broker would work. And it is just better to diversify. Have 2 different platforms to work off of. You do not realize it until it happens to you but if you are involved in a trade and something happens with the broker you are using, good luck getting someone on the phone. So 2 accounts - 6 in and outs over a 5 day period. FYI - Some brokerage houses will cut you some slack, especially if you are trading options which settle daily. It might be a function of how long you have been with the broker and the size you trade. Last time I discussed this with TD Ameritrade they told me you get 1 or 2 reprieves a quarter over the 3. For regulation reasons they are not going to broadcast it. You can also consider 2 brokers and trading cash. With options you just have to wait until the next trading day to have the proceeds of a prior trade available.
Oh yeah I hadn't thought about two cash accounts. Really though, it seems like two cash accounts would be only marginally better than one? But anyway I am set with IB again and still have my Alpaca account so at least now I have a max of 6 day trades. Honestly I have had pretty good results so far with overnight holds but sometimes I just want to bail at the last minute and I can't. But I do miss the short 3 to 5 bar trades that got me off to such a good start last year. It was a lot of fun and I was usually done for the day by lunchtime. I suppose I could also open a cash account, and only day trade on the margin account when I am all out of settled cash. But I am still intrigued by the idea of making a great big bunch of tiny overnight trades so that day trades are less than 6% of total trades. I might even be able to come up with a practical algorithmic strategy that would make it profitable in itself. All the micro overnight trades really would need to do is not lose much money. Their purpose would be to inflate the total number of trades and get the day trades below 6% of activity.
