Check it out Mav and try to be reasonable:

I pretty much agree with some of what you are saying. In my opinion Keith Olbermann is a nutcase. Ed Schulz and Chris Mathews are liberals and go off in left field. My television refuses to even go on when Rachel (excuse me, I got to puke...okay I'm back) Maddow is broadcasting.

Now, note: All these people do not do "news" broadcasts. Theirs are editorial programs.

On FOX, the biggest culprit is Sean Hannity. He runs an "editorial program".

However, MSNBC does have integrity when it comes to real news coverage.

Again, MSNBC does provide the viewer with "real news". But, yes, you are basically correct about some of their "commentators" who obviously are running "editorial programming".

Try watching some of the news programming on MSNBC and I think you will see that you and I aren't as far apart on this issue as you may believe.

Again...I fully understand what you are talking about, concerning the aforementioned editorial segments. However, if there was an explosion at LAX, I'd much quicker tune into CNN and MSNBC for their news coverage. I'm like you, I don't give a rat's ass about Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow.

I try to watch the major news outlets, TV and internet, then make my own conclusions about who is biased and what time segments are spewing editorial content. Hope this helps.

Like Shultz, most liberals are assholes. This begs the question as to which were they first?

Did being an asshole lead them into a liberal belief? Or did being a liberal turn them into assholes?

That was a reasonable response. However, I never stated those names I mentioned were news people. At the same time they are destroying the integrity of their network.

What often does happen though, when there is "real" news to report i.e live tornado coverage, they often bring in the "editorial" people to do live news coverage which does stain the credibility of the news.

I have spent many an hour watching MSNBC when live news does break. And more often then not, they bring in the editorial guys to comment on the "live news". That is annoying because you see these people as "characters"' not as reporters or serious news people.

Having said that, NBC news does have serious news people. The problem is they are never on screen alone. They are always sharing screen time with one of the clowns from their primetime editorial side. This pretty much kills the credibility of the network.

Which leads me back to my original post, which was not about the "news" content on MSNBC but rather the overall integrity of the network. I would not put MSNBC in the same sentence as CNN. CNN is a news network. MSNBC is an opinion network that occasionally breaks live news events until their sister channel at NBC breaks in. I stand by my original comment that the cast of characters on that channel have destroyed whatever integrity the news people on that channel try to bring.

Another thing that needs to be noted is that there is more to all this than is seen on TV. These guys also say what they say on TV because they are making big money to do so.

Whether we like it or not there is a liberal agenda and lots of liberals in the country. TV is just an outlet for some of them to make a lot of money by talking and stirring things up. Don't take them too seriously. Lots of folks are really okay; extreme liberals and extreme conservatives, as long as you keep their conversation away from politics.

Let me give an actual example. When Gabrielle Giffords was shot in AZ this was breaking news and obviously every network was on this right away. MSNBC immediately brought in their cast of all star clowns from the editorial side to report on the news of Giffords being shot while at the same time lecturing its viewers on the issue of gun control. That is not what I want to hear when a congresswoman is shot and almost killed.

I want to hear the who, what, why, where, when and how of the story. That is what they teach you in journalism school. You don't spend half the time talking about gun control and Sarah Palin's facebook response to the shootings. This woman is clinging to life and their "editorial" clowns won't shut up about how we should get rid of guns in this country. That's an actual example for you. There are many others.

I hear you. Yes, these people, in the minds of many, definitely hurt the integrity of MSNBC. Like I said, I just listen and then decide who is up to what on any particular media outlet.

I'm an independent minded type and I don't let the people on television sway me much one way or another. They're more entertaining to me than anything; with the possible exception of Rachel Maddow. ;>)

If they did this, that was dumb and a mistake on the part of MSNBC. But, again, their core viewership is probably so numb that when they present a story and mix in their liberal bias, it probably goes right over their viewers heads.

But, myself, sometimes I like vanilla ice cream; sometimes I like chocolate. And, I can always tell the difference.

  8. MSNBC is really on a roll. First the Olbermann split. I would hope even liberals would be able to see that the guy was not quite right and his apparent mental disorder should not have been displayed nightly on TV.

Then Rachel Maddow is caught basically making up some wild story that a black guy was kicked off a jury in a murder case with a black defendant because he objected to a Confederate flag outside the courthouse. Total lie. He asked to be let off and said he had problems with the justice system.

    Now this Schultz character.

If I owned this network I would be looking at the top execs and wondering why they keep hiring nuts, kooks and psychos. I somehow doubt that is the image Comcast is looking for, even if their Obama cheerleading suited the prior owner, GE, just fine.

It looks like Amy Siskind agrees with me.

MSNBC is a cesspool of misogyny

    By Amy Siskind

On Tuesday, MSNBC host Ed Schultz referred to radio show host Laura Ingraham as a “slut.” In fact, the word flowed so effortlessly off his tongue, he referred to her as a “slut” twice in two sentences! Yesterday, Schultz made an on-air apology and took a self-imposed one-week suspension without pay.

But Schultz’s short work leave is hardly fodder for revelry. Schultz is but an annoying gnat in the misogynistic cesspool that is MSNBC. Under MSNBC President Phil Griffin, who has had executive oversight of MSNBC since 2006, the cable network has displayed a consistent disdain and disrespect for women in leadership and public life. Which is why we the people, we the viewers, must demand that Griffin immediately institute corporate governance in the area of sexism — or, barring that, be terminated from his oversight position.

Sexist behavior is hardly new news at MSNBC. During the 2008 election, MSNBC was the leading culprit in overt sexism — the channel was filled with poster-boys of sexism: Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, David Shuster, Pat Buchanan and Mike Barnicle. There was fallout: millions of viewers stopped watching! These viewers migrated to networks that evolved after 2008 — becoming more sensitized and aware of sexism.

    But not MSNBC.

Under Griffin’s leadership, the cable network has continued its unabated disdain for women leaders. From “a big mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick on it” (Olbermann) to “balloon head” (Matthews) to “If Palin wasn’t hot would we be talking about her?” (Deutsch). It’s like 2008 never even happened. Well, sorry, Mr. Griffin: it did!

It’s time that MSNBC stop its on-air reign of terror against women leaders. Schultz’s latest slur is simply the most recent evidence of a toxic corporate environment where sexism has been allowed to fester unabated. When male hosts and commentators use these derogatory and degrading terms about women with such ease, we can imagine the work environment at MSNBC. (Personal anecdote: when I appeared on a network, the young woman who escorted me to the make-up artist had just recently left Olbermann’s staff — she liked her new job much better — Olbermann was apparently belligerent and degrading to his female staffers).

MSNBC’s Griffin must immediately institute corporate governance in the area of sexism. Specifically, MSNBC should immediately establish and mandate an in-house educational training course on sexism. All employees and regular on-air guests should be required to attend. MSNBC should establish an in-house no-tolerance policy for gender bias (direct impact on pay and promotions). MSNBC should also adopt a zero-tolerance policy for on-air sexist commentary — meaning this: control your words or be fired.

Simply put: issues are fair game, sexism is not. Evaluate candidates and leaders on their positions and performance. Demeaning women or trying to make them into sexual objects is bad for our country, and as ratings show, bad for business.

Please sign this petition calling on Griffin to mandate sexism sensitivity training or step down. The petition will also be sent to NBC Universal’s Board of Directors, which is composed of (you guessed it) solely white men!

It could be because of the 24/365 news we now get blasted with. They gotta fill in the void with something. And most of it sucks.
