Moving to Florida - Boca Raton Or Miami/South Beach or ???

Discussion in 'Hook Up' started by CPTrader, Sep 11, 2003.

  1. I traded at the BT Boca Office last Feb and came away with some observations about S. Florida. First, I couldn't believe the nite life in Ft. Lauderdale (I live in the Chicago burbs)-I have never been to bars before where the ratio of girls to guys is more than 2 to 1, which is what I observed at a few of the bars I was at in the Las Olas district of Ft. Lauderdale. Second, it seems like the farther north you go up the coast, the less hectic and more laid-back the lifestyle becomes. I am also thinking of moving, but am afraid I will get caught up in the nite life and that my trading will suffer.

I just know after moving to Las Vegas, my health & car insurance are reduced. Rent is much lower with newer apartment, fireplace & W/D. Food/fruits are cheaper & better. Kind of missing the natural sauna (humidity) & Cuban coffee. Night clubs are better but I need to get up early to trade.

  3. Are you ever awakened by the heroin addict/hooker/gentlemen's club dancer living next door, when her dealer/pimp/card hustler boyfriend slaps her around while looking for the C-note that she's holding out from him?

  4. To me, that is a major drawback to trading in the Pacific Time Zone (I am not a morning person). One thing nice about Vegas is that it has a good transportation system i.e. most main roads are 6 or 8 lanes and there doesn't seem to be the traffic congestion (other than along and near the strip) that plagues other major cities.

  6. I am curious where do you live right now and where are you moving too. I'm not sure if your post is a vote for Boca/Miami/south Flroida or a vote against. If it's a vote against where would you recommend. If it's a vote for - why?
    Thanks.

  8. I've got a Condo in Delray Beach which is just north of Boca. It amazes me when I drive south on Federal Hwy (Rt.1) at how many specialists are in strip centers. My permanent home is in Houston and here each strip center has a nail salon; in Boca it seems each strip center has a plastic surgeon or other specialist.

What you say is true about the crowds at the doctor's offices.
What you did not mention, is don't get sick in peak season, especially February. The medical system is in very serious overload then according to a couple of doctors I know who practice in the area.

Another item is the driving especially "in season" when NY and NJ retirees migrate to South Florida, usually in Cadillacs and Lincolns. I thought I had seen bad driving in Texas but in a week in S. Fl, I saw a couple of years of it including a head on when two red light runners made simultaneous left turns from opposite directions on Federal. I'm concerned when I drive in Houston and scared when I do in S. Florida.

For an interesting trip, drive the Beach Road (A1A) north to the Palm Beaches, and see some of the most expensive homes in the USA and the luxury cars that go with them. I've seen 6 Rolls Royce on one 20 mile trip. 500SLs and Lexuses are a dime a dozen.

What are you talking about? Where do you live? You need to be more positive to help fellow traders out.

Most people do not live in bad/downtown area. South Florida has tons of those people/area too. Most area here are very nice.

  10. The last time I visited Vegas, I went to a $3.95 all you can eat dinner buffet that Don Bright recommends in the book Vegas on $10.00 a Day, Bright Trading at .075 a Share.

The stevedore at the Prime Rib station told me that one time Bright farted after eating the Chicken Pot Pie and that Vegas was under a smog warning for several days afterwards. Old time Vegas residents compared the Bright fumigation to the nuclear experimentation at the Nevada Test Site back in the 1950's. I just can't get the smell out of my mind!
