Moving Forward: Your Opinion of ET

Discussion in 'Feedback' started by Baron, Aug 21, 2013.

How Should ET Move Foward from here?

  1. ET needs to implement lots of new features, like Facebook, LinkedIn and other social sites.

  2. ET should incrementally add new features based solely on user feedback.

  3. ET should get rid of features like Books/Brokers/Software Ratings and stick to forums only.

  4. ET has been great for the last 15 years just like it is and should be left alone.

  1. You are forgetting that it's Baron who started this thread. Clearly he is looking to change the site for the better and many people have a similar opinion as to how to improve things. If a few trolls fear they will be losing the ability to ruin every thread they partake in, then so be it. This kind of change is for the greater good. Real traders will come back and the wannabees/discontents will have to actually make a good argument if they disagree with something rather than the same old nonsense that they constantly spew.

  3. I am not intending to attack you, just to understand what you mean here.

IMO, this is a strange comment. Anarchy has a double meaning - chaos or self determination. We build governments (fictional) to fight our fears of something outside us (fictional for the most part). Of course a fiction in reality can't really protect us from other fictions. We know that in our inner core. So my first thought is: what are you so afraid of that you need protection from, from Baron (God in the context of this website)?

Quantum mechanics say that we are all part of the whole, we are not separate parts in reality. We don't have to agree, we just have to reason and be civil. Not for the sake of others, but for our own sake or we will end up alone (A-PART again not the whole) and one's great fiction is exposed for all to see. Diversity wins in all environments and facism loses ultimately because we are all part of the whole. What happens to one, happens to us all.

If people agree with your threads they will interact with them. If some people don't agree then it's better to not interact with them very much anyways. If you are afraid that no-one will interact with you, then that fear must be faced before you can move on. There must be someone out there that will answer your threads.

I would say that ET is "Jumping the shark" with this decision to bring in self-moderation. :)

I have been reading since 2005 and of all the comparable sites this one has changed the least.

    New features needed:

A place to upload scripts and exchange indicator tools.

A forum for regular webinars provided by vendors and profitable traders. Really nothing here.

Quality content is the key... not pages and pages of Surfer selling sh&t and telling everyone they are wrong and he is always right and has the keys to the kingdom. (With over 10 years and probably 20,000 posts without a single profitable month -- I have no idea why people respond to this guy. People in New York probably don't return his calls any more so he is going to South Florida. Seeya) Does anyone want to contribute to a thread if you can predict the next post will come from Surf and what the reply is going to be? Can anyone point to a single beneficial idea or thought that has come from his 20,000 posts? Market Drivers -- really?)

Take a look at BigMikeTrading a lot of great content there. Good download area.

Look at the calendar on http://www.forexfactory.com/ it is as old as ET and some really good journals there without the food fights.

Look at http://www.babypips.com/ -- good calendar and forums -- loyal base.

There has been some excellent content on ET, most of it years ago. Maybe a new category 'Best of ET' where some of these threads are easy to find and stand out from the noise and drek.

Baron, it looks like you are just harvesting the site and not investing any thought or effort. Fine if that is your plan - but it could be a lot better.

  6. This is so goddam easy to take care of. It's been suggested starting years ago that an "intelligent ignore" be implemented: Database all the ignores. Use that database in this way; Give users the ability to select the ignore level. I could choose to ignore the 10% most ignored user names, 20%, 1%, 0%, etc.

  7. Thanks for the response. I lien strongly toward the anarchocapitalist philosophy but at the same time know that practically some oversight is a must to protect from force fraud and coercion So I am we'll aware of anarchy and its meanings.

Self moderation will result in very generic stupid conversations controlled by vendor types who only say things folks want to hear. Right now we have the ignore button. This personalizes the site to your liking. It doesn't give blanket power to the prolific vendor types with agendas to quash dissenting opinions. That is simply wrong and will result in the sites destruction. Just look at the stupidity on the sites with this feature.

Regarding fear--- I am read by several hundred thousand on a daily bases and have been published daily on the front page of yahoo finance with millions of readers for over 2 years in the past. I provide content here for different reasons.

  8. I read yahoo finance and your tradingmarkets piece is not a daily occurrence. It's not even weekly. on what assumptions do you base your "I am read by several hundred thousand on a daily [sic] bases"

    Hey Surf,

If you don't like it leave and start your own site. I think I heard that somewhere else recently .

Quit whining and accept the decision made by the owner of the site.

Or you can still post here, and when you go off on your rabid meaningless rants which have no substance you will get the boot.

Quit acting like a spoiled 8 yr old. Wah wah wah.
