Moving Forward: Your Opinion of ET

Discussion in 'Feedback' started by Baron, Aug 21, 2013.

How Should ET Move Foward from here?

  1. ET needs to implement lots of new features, like Facebook, LinkedIn and other social sites.

  2. ET should incrementally add new features based solely on user feedback.

  3. ET should get rid of features like Books/Brokers/Software Ratings and stick to forums only.

  4. ET has been great for the last 15 years just like it is and should be left alone.

Great decision Baron. Let start with this thread and weed out the dross. :D

Just to make things fun...if someone gets banned from five threads they lose their membership, or be given a "cooling off" period.

I'm sure most thread starters are quite open to constructive criticism and wouldn't just ban the first person to express a different point of view...it would make the thread starter appear insecure and would deter others from contributing if they felt a meaningful discussion couldn't be had in that particular thread. I would view it as a sign of strength if someone "took it on the chin" from another poster and didn't just ban them at the first opportunity without giving the discussion a chance to develop.

You can always revert back after a couple of months if it doesn't work out.

Actually every morning is too early these days.
    Wish I was 21 again.

  4. You know, instead of being a drama queen you COULD just start your OWN thread and be given the same moderating rights as everyone else.

  5. This isn't just about me. I It's about the future of this site. Self moderation is the same thing as vigilantism-- there is a reason that is illegal and there are reasons why self moderation is a terrible idea.

Unlike the spineless, junior police force who can't manage things without resorting to extreme power ( banishment)-- I like controversy on my threads-- I don't know everything and am learning from those I disagree with every single day. Unfortunately, Baron has been swayed by a fewweak souls to allow the squelching of any opinion they don't agree with. Now, I am not saying this will happen in all cases--but just the potential that I will miss out on an interesting viewpoint due to WHATEVER whim of the thread starter makes this site irrelevant to me as I seek all ideas and am here to have my ideas challenged and ripped apart. Shame on Baron for making this ridiculous decision. surf

  6. It's not about disagreement, it's about disagreeing in a non-blanket statement kind of way. Saying "Well, 1000's of quants say otherwise" is NOT a legit argument. Or "30 years of market experience says what you are doing is wrong", when you have no idea the details of someone's method.

It will require the arguing party to make a better case, that's all.

  7. Only in an ideal world. Vigilante's patroling the streets armed with AK47's will deter crime also--- but the abuse potential is very real making the vigilante idea mute. The same thing goes for internet sites. Baron is going AGAINST HUMAN NATURE if he actually implements self moderation on this site. If anarcy worked, we wouldn't need governments to ensure dissentng opinions are heard. Elite will become a generic waste of time once this is implemented.

I still believe IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Baron will see the light and realize that ramped up site moderation by third party moderators is what is needed, NOT self moderation by every thread starter.

The weirdist part of this entire thread-- is BARON is listening to a few trolls who want to squelch anyone disagreement--- the MAJORITY according to the survey above WANT NO CHANGES to the site. Why he would give in to a few angry folks who can't support their own ideas without having mod powers-- is very odd.

  9. Some trolls are on the other end of this decision, as some trolls are violently against it. It works both ways, Surf.

Plus, I'm sure this decision is contingent on it working out after a beta phase. If after x amount of time, people are happy it will most likely stay. If not, then it may be scrapped. No big deal. Relax man.

  10. I'm not worried. It's not going to happen. There's no way Baron will self destruct the site in such a way. I think he is just placating the malcontents. I support greater moderation, just not self moderation. Peace, surf
