  1. Then why and how should Moveon.org be shut down? And who should shut them down?

I used to listen to the Pacifica Foundation's radio station in LA, KPFK. They have KPFA in Berkeley and WBAI in New York. They have been spewing this kind of garbage since 1959 with little to no effect on anything or anybody. When krappy little marxist liberals with no real good argument to defend their ridiculous positions do this kind of thing it just does not get them much, people with sensibilities are offended and they see through it. Things like that should just serve as a reminder to vote.

Why do people follow a philosopher from the mid 19th centurY anyhow??

  3. Maverick74. Apparently the ADL agrees with me more than you. While we the three of us disagree with the use of the comparison, only you call for the abolition of Moveon.org.

New York, NY, January 5, 2004 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today said it was deeply troubled that MoveOn.org had allowed an outrageous and highly offensive political ad that directly compared President George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler to be posted on its Web site.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and author of Never Again? The Threat of the New Anti-Semitism, issued the following statement:

It is shocking that a mainstream political group like MoveOn.org not only allowed this vile and outrageous comparison of the American President to Adolf Hitler to be entered into its "Bush in 30 Seconds" contest in the first place, but that they even went so far as to make it available to the public on the Internet. Those responsible for this contest at MoveOn.org should have immediately identified this advertisement as one going far beyond legitimate criticism and rejected it out of hand. Instead, they made an irresponsible decision that has given legitimacy to the exploitative manipulation of images in a campaign season.

MoveOn.org clearly would not have accepted a pornographic ad as legitimate criticism of a candidate. Why did they think that images of Hitler, the Nazi whose evil regime was responsible for the slaughter of millions of people during the Holocaust, was a fitting and credible expression of criticism of President Bush and his policies? Their lack of discretion cheapens the level of political discourse in America, and their comments explaining it were hardly comforting.

  4. Control free speech and dissention?

No, it is about "security" against terrorism. You know, it is about the "free speech" zones.

  8. Interesting story for ya Mav:

Skokie Illinois has a very large Jewish population, many of whom are holocaust survivors. In 1978, a gang of American (?) Neo-Nazis decided they want to march, in Nazi uniform, through the streets of Skokie. Most of the Jews of Skokie fought to legally forbid the march. Rabbi Kahane's JDL threatened phisical violence againt the Nazis, should they actually dare to goose-step through Skokie. My family on my dad's side are all holocaust survivors- yet my family chose to take a different view to the conflict. They said to let the bastards march, on the principle of free speech. They fully intended to taunt & counter-demonstrate, but nothing more.

I feel the same way- people with ugly, offensive opinions should always be debated & protested...but not silenced.

I do not want to silence them. Do you understand that being a tax exempt organization is a privilege, not a right. I will say that again, being a tax exempt organization is a privilege, not a right. I believe they are abusing that privilege, and should no longer be a tax exempt organization. I do not want to silence them. They can talk all they want, just not on my tax dollar. Thank you.
