Leftist guilt stems from the idiotic notion that all things must be equal to achieve the liberal utopia. There is absolutely nothing fair or equal about life, not in nature itself. The only consent is that we all die. other than that there are variables, many variables, not the least of which is dumb luck. Some people will catch a break, some won't. We can do what we can to limit outright discrimination, but there will always be someone getting hosed simply because of who they are. Because discrimination isn't dumb luck. People create it as an edge. We can control that. We can't eliminate it because some human beings will always want more than some other guy and are willing to screw him to get it. We can smooth out the playing field with opportunity, but it will never be level. Being born in America rather than some third world dump is dumb luck. Being born into a wealthy family can be dumb luck. Being born white can be dumb luck. Being born black in America rather than Somalia can be dumb luck. We cannot control any of that.
Well said. An interesting thing about a two-tier society, say banana republic, where the poor outnumber the rich 100 to 1, is that the lottery of birth makes your odds of a bad "draw" so much higher. Whereas in a more equitable society most people get playable cards (let the game begin!).

Their kids are safely tucked away in pricey private schools where they don't have to hand over their lunch money to gang bangers every day or get beaten up on the school bus. Their kids are the little snots we see demonstrating for "fairness" and "economic justice" at elite universities. Then they're off for the cush job daddy got them at a hedge fund.
