But without low wages immigrants, price for a cup of coffee could be double, cost of building a house could be double (due to less demand or labour cost increase,etc.), demand of houses will be diminishing hence house price decreasing when retirees wanting to sell their houses for downsizing, cost for processing of farming produce would be double, if luckily getting labours required, etc. Without low wages labour supply, on top of population decrease, the overall housing market would collapse, just like Japan nowadays for the last 20 years. Leaving mainly wealthy probably like you staying in the country. Who will be going to serve you for breakfast, fastfood, cleaning the theatre where you enjoy operas, cleaning restrooms, etc. etc. When there will be only wealthy people living in a country, who are going to fight for the country in case of invasion war, build the warships, etc. Who were the ones that built the cars and roads in the last 100 years. As mentioned before, and also stated in the article, a country evaluate measures in generations, not years! IF immigrants was/is such a bad thing/idea to a country, why so many developing and developed countries for so many years till nowadays are still welcoming immigrants without ceasing! Its all a ponzi scheme. There is no society that can survive these days without offloading all the problems to the next generation. Immigration sounds good, until those immigrants all need services in their later years, and the only answer to that is more immigrants. The fact of the matter is, each person consumes more than they contribute. The current system is set up for growth, not sustainability. I suppose that maybe when it comes to Muslims, if we turn some into suicide bombers, many into fighters, who work for free, and only the promise of a wonderful afterlife, then more can be sucked from their contribution than the proceeds they receive, but this certainly won't work in the modern world. These days, immigrants require food and shelter, and all of these things boost sales and GDP. I often wonder how countries think they are growing if they post a 1-2% GDP, but then their immigration is also 1-2%. This means there is no growth in reality, just more people using shit they aren't paying for, tacked onto some national debt that never has to be repaid until the whole system blows up.
Where did you get the 1-2% GDP spending on migrants as an offset? Furthermore, the ageing median age for Japan is 46.9 years. Its population's overall earning capability for contributing taxes yearly to national incomes would later be questionable/diminishing! Immigrant could help improving a country's median age.
Immigration is the key to sustain economic growth PROVIDED that you get the RIGHT kind of immigrants. NOT everything is created equal and immigrants are no exception.
When we think positively (and humanely) after re-reading the original article, also with an open mind, the people expect in longer term the immigrants, whether this generation or next, would (naturally) contribute to the local economy/society, without particularly mentioning conditions of selecting certain migrants. I'm living in a country which are experiencing the greatest HOAX in recorded history. There are NO SUCH THING as 'refugees'. They are ALL economic migrants faking their way into the most liberal, indiscriminate welfare state in the world. The Swedish Social Insurance Authority (forsakringskassan) have themselves admitted that a 'refugee' single mother of three will receive 23,000 Swedish Kroner a month AFTER TAXES in benefits without having to do anything work wise in return. This is in addition to the FREE 3 or 4 bedroom apartment she will be given, jumping the decades-long waiting cues for government housing Swedish citizens will have to endure.
