I was in Riga, Latvia last week. Getting a conversation going with the locals in English is very difficult. I came home early as it was pretty lonely. I would reccomend Estonia though much more advanced and open. I was going to go to St Petersburg, Moscow and Sochi but am reconsidering my plans.

  4. Well you can use internet cafes perhaps to access the internet. A good website for news in russia is www.moscowtimes.ru You can purchase a condo which if you want american style living will be from 50k to 100k. Are you planning on swing trading that may be best in your situation since the time difference, New York is what 8 hours behind moscow, I think thats it. I just got back from russia and had a great vacation, 2nd time I visited there, best of luck, bill

  6. Reasons:
    1) Good looking and NICE girls
    2) Lower cost of living
    3) I am Russian and frankly life in America is very booooring, people are superficial and stuck up
    4) New York is by far more advanced place in America as far as social life and opportunities go, but still it is not my style of living to go to bars and night clubs all the time.

  7. Just out of curiousity...

If you think America is boring, and you don't like going to nightclubs and bars, what makes Russia so exciting?

  8. Im neither American or russian, but am Canadian and living in The Czech Republic, What most Americans cannot understand is that Eastern Europe has a different type of life. In North America, We like our Things, spend time at home in our Air conditioned homes, drive in nice cars, play on the internet, in eastern Europe people like to live, to interact, socialize, everyday most people are at the local pub/cafe no one spends time at home, why? And russians are a different type of breed all together, everything is very flamboyant (sp) there sense of style and outragenous, it has to be seen. Also there is much more opportunity for business minded people in the former East Bloc as its not controlled yet by large corporations totally like in the US. If you have a good idea, some capital and will to put up with a little to much red tape, you can have a very good life here.

I'm getting real real fed up with this myth of so-called beautiful Russian girls. Seems to me that that is spread by guys who can't get a nice-looking girl an the West and have to turn to Former SU to get a woman. That aside, there's absolutely no reason to move to Russia to meet those socalled "beautiful" girls, they're all over Western-Europe. How do you think they support themselves? They'll do anything to get out of Russia and that's not because life is so much fun there. That's explains why they're not nice, life over them has made them tough as steel. For big mobsters or former elite-communists it's ok, but for the rest of the population (90%) it's hell on earth.

Ok, I'll try to bring it back on topic

    1) We're trading from an office here in Moscow and have a DSL connection (MTU-Intel for those who know: www.tochka.ru). For the last couple of months we had 1 day when the connection was lost for the 3.5 hours. It was in the local day time so it didn't affect our trading much. Otherwise the connection is stable and we get the same executions as our usa fellow traders. You pay around $200-300/month for that (depending on traffic used)

    2) Regarding trading itself-we're doing DAX futures and ES mostly. (You can also read my posts on "Dax vs E-mini" thread).
Time difference is a very convenient feature for the late owls. Starting 5:30 pm local time for ES day session.

    3) accommodations: well for those who want to get a VERY nice place-lets say 1 bedroom, downtown Moscow (Arbat area), fully renovated (Euro style) completely furnished, equipped with satellite TV, jacuzzi, balcony-we had such an apartment for 3.5 yrs and paid 1K/month.

    4) Entertainment: the best place in Eastern Europe in my opinion
Night clubs, restaurants, bars, casinos, whore houses open 24/7
This is one of the main reasons americans like it here besides having a great social life.

I moved here 4 yrs ago and love it.
