It's time to pay back the U.S. Department of Education. Seriously, the minimum wage is higher in most states since Biden won the election although only a few states is > $15 per hour. Lots of jobs out there that pay a decent wage including > $15 per hour. It's time for Americans to tighten up their expenses, minimize their eating out, and lose some of that fat they accumulated during the Pandemic because the U.S. is ranked #10 with a 36.2 obesity rating on the planet... Simply, the United States of America is one of the unhealthiest populations on the planet. It's an unhealthy fat country. Factually, Americans with obesity problems are one of the reasons why it was hit so hard by Covid. As a kid, I actually remember when the U.S. had only a ranking of #65th. Recently, I was in the U.S. for the July 4th celebrations...travel to Kentucky, South Dakota, and Illinois. I was shocked by the number of Kidney Dialysis Centers, Heart & Stroke Rehab facilities, crazy number of fast food restaurants, and almost 1/2 empty fitness centers. Regardless, cut out the fat unhealthy habits (I'm not just talking about food) and they will not have any problems paying back their student loans that will restart this October 2023. Last of all, parents and students need to be better informed (educated) about the hazards of obtaining a college degree while needing financial aid to get that degree. The financial aid system in the United States of America is ripping people off and is one of the biggest reasons why America has skyrocketing consumer debt (student loans, credit card debt, auto loans, mortgage debt, and payday loans). wrbtrader
Nothing to do with Biden. He gave up the fight for an increased min wage after an un elected parliamentarian told him no.
Biden could have delayed this until next term, but it was just one of many times he fucked democrat voters. Biden wrote the devastating crime bill that devastated blacks,Trump passed a crime reform bill. Trump stops student loan payments,Joe makes the payments restart. In some ways Biden is a bigger enemy to minorities and progressives than Trump
Trump stopped student loans (temporarily) but had plans in place to restart the program...not end it. Yet, he then lost the 2020 Presidential election to Biden. It then becomes Biden's problem, especially after student loan forgiveness was part of his campaign to win the election and he was very clear that it will eventually restart with a catch if he wasn't able to achieve complete forgiveness for a certain amount ($20,000 worth of federal student loans per person)... Unfortunately, even that promise did not deal with what the average student had in student loan debt. The average federal student loan debt is $37,338 per borrower. Private student loan debt averages $54,921 per borrower. That action addressed historical inaccuracies in the count of payments that qualify toward forgiveness under IDR plans. Under the Higher Education Act and the Department’s regulations, a borrower is eligible for forgiveness after making 240 or 300 monthly payments—the equivalent of 20 or 25 years on an IDR plan or the standard repayment plan, with the number of required payments varying based upon when a borrower first took out the loans, the type of loans they borrowed, and the IDR payment plan in which the borrower is enrolled. Inaccurate payment counts have resulted in borrowers losing hard-earned progress toward loan forgiveness. This action also addresses concerns about practices by loan servicers that put borrowers into forbearance in violation of Department rules. The Department previously began discharging loans for borrowers who reached forgiveness for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) through these changes. Also, he made it easier (removed well-known common roadblocks) for businesses to pay back the loans that their employees had accumulated including loan forgiveness for those that join the U.S. military whereas in the past, including under Trump...it was delayed...not forgiven. As an example, I know a well-known Doctor in Kentucky still paying back his 125k education loans. He had not qualified by the route of having paid 240 months. Further, the hospital where he's employed had no program under Kentucky's healthcare system to pay back employee's student loans...all Trump did for him was delay (deferment) his payments during the Pandemic while he worked in a very dangerous Covid ward of his hospital. In contrast, under Biden...the healthcare system in the state of Kentucky removed some roadblocks for that system to payback the loans...forgiving the employees...avoiding what Trump only did...deferment only. Essentially the government was paid by the hospital organization and the employee had "forgiveness"...no more payments including helping the employee offer free services to repair credit damage caused by late payments in the past prior to the individual becoming an employee for the business. Not every business is qualified or interested in that "forgiveness system" but it was already in place long before Trump. In fact, many businesses were not taking advantage of the system or they just didn't use it as an incentive to attract new employees. Today, more businesses are aggressively advertising "forgiveness programs" and "tuition reimbursement programs". As stated, this was in place long before Trump. I saw several businesses actually advertising those programs as a benefit for employees when in fact they had not been advertising such before the Pandemic nor during Trump Administration. In addition, I know the military changed some rules under the Biden Administration involving those that served after January 1st, 2013 and then spent economic hardship after their service. I'm not familiar with this program nor do I know how many veterans are taking advantage of that program. Prior to Biden...there were different rules that only involved "deferments" if you were a full-time student after serving your country in the U.S. military. I have a cousin that recently took a job at Fidelity Investments. They deferred his payments the first few months after his hired date and then completely "forgived" $10,000 the first year of employment and then another $10,000 when he completed his 2nd year of employment. He only had about $20k in loans. Now he no longer has any student loan payments...student loan debt free. Yet, I do realize the above examples are exceptions as in not a solution for the average student with student loan debts during the Biden Administration. Last of all, I'm not a fan of student loan forgiveness except if it involves employment at a business, military service and those considered front line workers during the Pandemic (e.g. healthcare professionals). wrbtrader
Biden could have delayed this into the next presidential term, allowing people 2 more years to pay down or off other debt so when the student debt restarted it wouldn't be so bad with other debt payed down or off. Joe the backstabbing snake Biden restarted student loan payments and cut 1.5 trillion to the poor with nothing in return from republicans. With a president as bad as Biden another Trump term doesn't even bother me.
As stated before, he delivered on the things that I voted for as I specifically outlined in a recent reply. Student loan forgiveness wasn't something I was interested considering my undergraduate education was paid for by my parents. Thus, when I completed my education...I had no student loan debts and I did not (still do not) trust the U.S. student loan system in comparison to other countries that offer "free college education" or "dirt cheap good college education". Further, when I went to grad school after the military...the military paid all of it. Yet, I am glad to see more businesses involved today in student loan forgiveness for their employees. It's something not even the Supreme Court can stop. wrbtrader
Moderates Dems like yourself like him.Progressives and minorities hate him. We'll see how he does in 2021.
