More tariff talks.....

Discussion in 'Wall St. News' started by S2007S, Nov 25, 2024.

  1. Yesterday's rally pretty much told ya that the tariffs mean jack. Mexico came out and said any tariff would only harm US companies while Canada said they would look into it. China is China so no big whoop.

  3. What happened to all the people who said the high inflation wasn't transitory?
Didn't you learn from Carol Ann not to listen to the TV people?

Never heard of moncler. LOL Isn't that a pen brand? Canada Goose I tell ya is good value, totally underpriced considering how good its quality is.

I'm no economist either, but I read a lot from those that are...

At face value if everything that happens per Trump's threats - then sure there would be negative financial implications. But that's not the real world and not how things worked when he imposed tariffs during the first term. Just like all these politicians that claim raising taxes will bring in X amount of $$$. It never happens because people change their behavior. Tariff threats of this magnitude will result in significant behavioral changes from all of those potentially affected. Some tariffs may happen for a while, currencies may be devalued and other deals and arrangements could be struck to find middle ground.

At the end of the day Trump will own all of this half way through his term. There's no way he's going to allow things to deteriorate meaningfully because it reflects poorly on him. He's too proud and narcissistic. Any shitty ideas he has that start to fail will get reversed or modified. And although most people don't believe this, he has a strong stable of very qualified and knowledgeable people that he does talk to and listen to on lots of issues.

most if not all the trades are fob, buyers take the ownership of the freights abroad, and to clear the custom at its own country. the costs will add up.

  8. Trump's only using tariffs as a bargaining chip/threat for his potential "deal making."

he already imposed the tariffs since 2019, the inflation showed up slowly 2 years later. now the higher price level is here to stay. not much a threat.

You are asking people to change their thinking. The US economy is based on consumerism. You are encouraged to buy the latest and the greatest as often as possible. You need a new iPhone or a new car every couple years,
Where will the jobs come from if you don't replace your stuff every year or so. Who will be able to afford the high priced high quality goods that the US will produce?
