After two such workouts, which went well, and after reading a bit more material on HIT, I decided to drop it to 8 multi-joint sets again (along with the isolation set, and HIIT cardio stuff). However, the workout will include forced rep work for more of the sets, and it will be a bit more extensive in nature than what I had previously done. I want to see how far along the continuum of "quality over quantity" I can get away with.
Is once every three months infrequent enough? First day back in the gym today since mid March. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if not for my garage workouts. Endurance okay, but strength down 15 to 20 percent across the board, every single movement, compound or otherwise. Gained two pounds this last three months which isn't all that bad considering I haven't been all that diligent with nutrition. The journey back begins today.
That might be stretching it just a tad. I am imagine my gym will be opening in the not too distant future, but I have no intention of going anytime soon. I recall reading that South Korea had a surge in cases after their gyms reopened, so I’ll take that as a cautionary tale. Just curious, did you wear a mask while working out? Also, what precautionary measures did the gym employ?
Most are buying their own exercise equipment to workout at home. Unfortunately, some of the sought after equipment are out of stock due to people buying up everything they can find during this Pandemic. I was lucky enough to have replaced a few favourite old equipment with new ones prior to the Pandemic (e.g. concept rowing machines, tacx bike trainer, free weights). Also, I was lucky as a kid...my old man was a fitness buff. Our entire basement was converted to a fitness gym. It made it very easy for me to stay in shape all year around considering I competed in sports very heavily all the way thru college and continuing into the military. Can't imagine ever going to a fitness gym even if I didn't have my home gym. The ideal of being around heavily breathing people in a public fitness gym is just crazy even if people are using social distancing. The reason...that 6 ft apart rule is incorrect. It should be 12 feet based upon how far sneeze / cough droplets can actually travel and a lot of gyms don't use the proper cleaning / sterilize solution for members to wipe down the equipment after using it. To keep from freaking out during this Pandemic...I take the scull out on the St. Lawrence. Fresh air on water with less pollution...re-energize time. Looking forward to returning back to this in the coming winter assuming we're still not in a Pandemic...the bell curve has been flatten... wrbtrader
Sounds like you have a fairly comprehensive gym at home. I also lucked out because I bought a couple of pieces of equipment last summer that, together with a few weights, completes my "home gym." And so I can do the same workout at home that I would otherwise be doing in the gym. As it stands, I don't see how going to the gym would be workable before a vaccine is introduced.
I did not wear a mask. I used the solution they have provided to wipe down equipment. I did so before and after use, was much more thorough than normal. I had some of my own sanitizer and used that between each piece of equipment I used. I did not immediately follow anyone after they had used something which wasn't much of a pain, gym wasn't all that crowded. Took a shower immediately when I got home. I'm watching the levels in my area, any increase of substance and I'll stop. In that case I'll really need to expand what I have at home because a couple dumbells won't suffice if I'm working out at home for what would probably be many months
While keeping surfaces clean is important, I'd be more concerned about the heavy breathing and the droplets that would carry and remain in the air for some time. But wearing a mask in the gym if you're working hard is also asking for trouble, so damned if you do and damned if you don't. Also, with the proximate heavy breathing, I suppose goggles wouldn't be out of order... They opened up my barbershop yesterday, so I've got that to think about.
Gym responds to Schwarzenegger's decision to leave over mask policy https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/ce...leave-over-mask-policy/ar-BB15G5CC?li=BBnb7Kz Gold's Gym supports Arnold Schwarzenegger's recent decision to leave one of its fitness facilities over its mask policy, calling it an "important personal decision." The gym, however, says it stands by its decision not to require guests to wear face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic, although mask-wearing is "strongly" encouraged. In a statement to Wonderwall.com, Gold's Gold's Gym President & CEO Adam Zeitsiff, said, "We love Arnold and completely respect his decision. We know that where to go and what to do as the country reopens is an important personal decision that everyone must make for themselves." "For the safety of our members and team members who are comfortable returning to the gym, we've implemented a comprehensive, phased reopening plan with extensive sanitation, safety and physical distancing protocols in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. In accordance with Los Angeles County guidelines, at Gold's Gym Venice members are required to wear face masks when entering and exiting the gym," the statement continued. "All team members are required to wear gloves and face masks as part of these protocols, and while we don't require for members to wear face masks during their workout, we absolutely strongly encourage it." For years, Arnold, 72, has worked out at Gold's Gym in Venice, Calif., which is arguably the most famous gym in the world, particularly given the number of professional bodybuilders that work out there. On June 16, TMZ reported that the "Terminator" star went to the Venice Gold's for a morning workout, which was one of the first days that gyms were able to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic. While Arnold was wearing a mask upon entering, he noticed that several gym members in the middle of their workouts were not wearing masks. Front desk staff informed Arnold that people were required to wear masks when they entered and when they were in certain common areas, but the law doesn't require them to wear masks when they're actually working out. Following the front desk's explanation, Arnold quickly left. The former California governor "will stay clear of Gold's until people start wearing masks on the floor — or when there's a vaccine," TMZ said.
As it stands now, I think I'll wait for a vaccine before hitting the gym again. But I did go for my first haircut in 4 months on Wednesday. I wore a mask. The barber wore both a mask and face shield, and the chairs were separated by Plexiglas. All instruments are sanitized between clients. Of course, when she said something to me that I didn't understand through the muffle of her mask, she lowered the mask to clarify. I was in the chair, and so I was looking up at her from under her face shield. *Sigh*
