Amen. (Oops. Perhaps the wrong word choice.) In a country that (supposedly) practices freedom of religion, why do the Christians feel it is their right to impose their beliefs on non-Christians? I've never understood the rationalization for that. They're as rigid and narrow and bigoted in their beliefs as the KKK - Our Way or the Highway. Gays and those who support them aren't trying to impose their beliefs on anyone, they aren't trashing "traditional marriage", they just want the freedom to choose for themselves, to live their own lives w/o interference. If they were child molesters, it'd be a different story, but they're consenting adults. To decree that they can't live as they wish because it goes against the Christian doctrine is about as Un-American as one can get. H
Of course not. You quote my msg but you don't really read it or actually respond to it. I don't support anyone who tries to enforce their beliefs on anyone else. That is my point. I never said anything about some greater liberal or conservative agenda, I didn't use those terms at all for the very reason that I have nothing but contempt for pure partisan politics. I wrote about Christians and gays and the moral beliefs (based in one's religion) of one being imposed upon another, which is, I repeat, not The American Way. H
So what liberals do determines what conservatives should do? Is that your concept of "principled" behavior?
Actually, my point is that the essence of politics is imposing your preferences on others. Personally, I'd prefer for government to leave people alone, but that seems unlikely. You may look on it as forcing religious beliefs on non-believers, but the fact is that most legislation is based on someone's view of appropriate morality. I think Christians have every right to advance their principles or at least expect the government to respect them enough not to champion agenda that are in direct opposition to their traditional beliefs.
You do understand that your statement could be turned 180 degrees. Liberals are "enforcing the beliefs" that the government should recognize same-sex marriage. It's funny, after, I don't know five thousand years of Man-Woman marriage through-out civilization, it is all-of-a-sudden christian conservative who are trying to "enforce the beliefs" about marriage being strictly between a man and a woman. And the liberals, are not trying to "enforce their beliefs" at all, but ... I don't what they hell do you call it then? I'd laugh, if it weren't for the knot in my stomach ..
