More Americans blame Republicans than Democrats for potential government shutdown, Post-ABC poll finds

By a 20-point margin, more Americans blame President Trump and Republicans rather than Democrats for a potential government shutdown, according to a
    new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

A 48 percent plurality says Trump and congressional Republicans are mainly responsible for the situation resulting from disagreements over immigration laws and border security, while 28 percent fault Democrats. A sizable 18 percent volunteer that both parties are equally responsible. Political independents drive the lopsided margin of blame, saying by 46 to 25 percent margin that Republicans and Trump are responsible for the situation.

The poll was conducted Monday to Thursday, largely before House Republicans’ passage of a short-term funding bill Thursday aimed at averting a shutdown starting midnight Friday and putting pressure on Democrats and the Senate to avert a shutdown.

Democrats railed against the House bill for not offering protections for young undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children as well as other issues, and are planning to block the measure if it is brought to the Senate floor.

The Post-ABC poll finds Democrats are more united in blaming Republicans for the situation than vice versa. A 78 percent majority of Democrats say Trump and congressional Republicans are mainly responsible for the potential government shutdown, while a smaller 66 percent of Republicans blame Democrats in Congress. One in seven Republicans, 14 percent, say Trump and Republicans are to blame.

Public opinion ahead of Friday’s deadline is similar to attitudes at the end of the 2013 government shutdown. A Post-ABC poll after it ended found 53 percent of Americans said Republicans were mainly responsible for the shutdown, compared with 29 percent who blamed President Obama. The 24 percentage-point margin of greater blame for Republicans then is slightly larger than the 20-point blame margin for Trump and Republicans in the new poll.

The new poll finds Hispanic adults say by a roughly 3 to 1 margin that Republicans are mainly responsible for a potential government shutdown, with 60 percent blaming Trump and Republicans while 19 percent blame Democrats. Similarly, 61 percent of adults under age 30 say Trump and Republicans are mainly responsible for the situation, higher than other age groups.

The Post-ABC poll was conducted Jan. 15-18, 2018 among a random sample of 1,005 adults reached on cell and landline phones with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

  4. Possibly Schumer has an ace, Trump can't go to Florida today unless it is resolved I head on FOX.

That is a lot of pressure on Trump.

Interesting how they worded the poll. One choice is "Trump or Republicans". A good poll would have split that out, unless someone wanted to push a narrative.

And then there is this, from the poll:

  7. Trump needs to be in Florida for his $100,000 a couple one-year anniversary bash , so the probability of him folding is high.

Trump is planning a $100,000-per-couple anniversary party at Mar-A-Lago a day after the government is slated to shut down

As the prospect of a government shutdown hangs over Washington, Donald Trump will travel to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Friday, where he plans to host a one-year anniversary of his inauguration that costs $100,000 for a pair of tickets.

As Bloomberg’s Jennifer Jacobs reports, Trump wanted to throw a year anniversary of his victory last November, but was instead on trip to Asia.

Trump is expected to arrive in Florida on Friday afternoon, just hours before a government shutdown will be triggered if Congress fails to pass a spending bill. Meanwhile, the White House doesn’t even have a full-time director running the agency responsible for coordinating a government shutdown.

To be fair McConnell has not put anything on the floor yet. The public may turn on democrats if the republicans put a serious proposal on the floor and democrats balk. This isn’t a slam dunk for democrats.

On the same note, you can’t blame democrats without the republicans putting up a bill to vote on.

    Those reviews are hilarious:D

Stayed at this hotel sheets had pee stains all over them.
The white Pillow cases all had eye holes cut out of them.
Found all of the linen, silverware, beds and furniture all made in china .
The bed felt like there was a little dick poking me in the back
Rating... no stars...no star would have the lack of self esteem or lack of moral fiber to ever stay here

Wow, this resort is a complete sh--thole. The management seems to despise anyone who isn't white. They were particularly nice to the Norwegians and Russians. But any time a person of color entered the building, the staff told them to "go back to your sh--hole country"!

Diversity is what makes America great. This business is certainly on the wrong side of history.

This place is a complete shithole.
I've seen very bad places, and let me tell you this is one of the worst.
FAKE Times Person of the Year framed on the wall, hookers at the bar, bad seafood, & even large cracks in the building foundation.
Horrible decorations. Fake gold everywhere. Like a place that racist, D-List celebrities go to feel important.
