What should the government do?

  1. Take the 1-2% population hit mostly of the elderly and get back to normal as soon as possible.

Good for California. In the meantime there is a better way to go than our fifty-different-plans approach to a crisis. If, however, the master plan was to disintegrate the Federal Government from within via chaos created by chimpanzee-like leadership; thus by default returning the states to colonial era independence, but without a king, then congratulations to the creators of the master plan. It would seem they have succeeded marvelously.

Here is a thing to consider, nurses and doctors started to die. A very sobering article:

    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/were-failing-doctors/608662/

"Six months into the 15-month Ebola epidemic, health-care providers stopped coming to work. They had little PPE. They saw their friends die without any special care. Their colleagues began abandoning their jobs, one by one, until there was no one left. There was nowhere for people to obtain treatment for stomach pain, childbirth, heart attacks, car crashes, or any other routine or unpredictable health event. As a result, experts estimate that more people died from illnesses like malaria and diarrhea than Ebola."

This has to be taken into account when we consider abandoning the 2%. If we lose 20-30% of the doctors and nurses (illness, death or leaving the job) people will start to die due to other illnesses or accidents.

"A recent analysis from the University of Pennsylvania estimated that even if social-distancing measures can reduce infection rates by 95 percent, 960,000 Americans will still need intensive care. There are only about 180,000 ventilators in the U.S. and, more pertinently, only enough respiratory therapists and critical-care staff to safely look after 100,000 ventilated patients. Abandoning social distancing would be foolish. Abandoning it now, when tests and protective equipment are still scarce, would be catastrophic."

My personal guess is minimum half million dead by the end of this year. If Trump fucks up even more, we could go 2 million.

Social distancing not too much of an issue especially as no gym and pool for showers.

I'd leave it at that and work from home if you can and oldies locked away thats enough, and doesnt fuck up economy lose 3.3 million jobs in 1 week.

Grow some balls damn snow flakes.

Yesterday NYC had more emergency calls than on 9/11. And this will be a daily occurrence from now on.

Why would we lose 20-30% of doctors and nurses? Why would the mortality rate be 20 or 30 times higher among them?

Short term, then it'll burn out, yes it's going to get ugly, but 4 - 6 weeks time the cases will drop rapidly because everyone would of had it.

UK's ahead of you, 2 - 4 weeks here, before the drop!

I completely agree, though I'm not sure its intentional scaremongering. Folks refuse to use their mind and question the information social media is spoon feeding them.

Additionally, there are some significant foreign actors doing their best to try to sew discontent and chaos and fear throughout the West right now. And every time we pass on their bullshit and allow it to go unquestioned, we are carriers of the greatest virus ever: Panic

Think I know what the scam is, the easiest answer is..................

Scare people, fill there heads with 24/7 media of people dying and ill, over exaggerate the numbers hugely and make no attempt to correct, while not lying just terminology which most don't get, then when it's all over and only 1% of expected deaths happen, then our leaders will be gods and we'll bow down and lick there asses :(

Getting played, Ass Lube will be required, but might not be available as not an essential item :(
