Money can't buy happiness

Discussion in 'Psychology' started by eagle, May 5, 2006.

  1. so then the question becomes how do you truly become happy?? I have found that the more money I make the more cynical and angry I become I see this happening and don't know what to do about it.

    Anyone?

  3. man for some reason it doesnt come from within though, I look ast my posts when I first started as to the garbage I post now and thats only 8 months, can't figure out why, but maybe its the barage of newbie questions from posting on the p/l thread, if someone on this site wqhoe is from my hometown who i will choose to leave anonymous hadnt helped me out i dont know where id be and yet still iu just feel more angry and more like everyone in this world is trying to take a piece off my ass. Maybe it comes from more and more times getting screwed by bullshit, i dont know.

  4. Happiness depends on how well your needs or expectations are met. The needs and expectations for each person is different since everything is relative.

If you have no expectations, you cannot be disappointed.

True happiness comes from inside. Which means nothing outside can affect it. Such as:
    • How much money you make
    • What kind of car you drive
    • How many people you've helped
    • How many friends you have
    • How many lives you've touched
    • What country you live in (i.e. Europe or the US)
    • How many trading rules you broke today

  5. Well I know when I'm happy, and I'm up at 3:30 am and my oh my, my platform doesn't work STILL (if today it doesn't work, it's going to be 5 days in a row *including weekends when hasn't worked*).

Which equates to, another day where I can not log into my firms server, which has me pissed to .... I don't know what level, but I'm getting upset about this. I can't trade!!!!!!!!

I don't even care about money, *I just explained the truth about the world being controlled by money* .... BUT the fact is, I can't trade and I'm loosing my damn mind, it's like life as I know has been sucked out of me.

MY MONEY being put into another prop firm with a bit more reliability will make me VERY... VERY... VERY happy for a VERY ... VERY... VERY LONG TIME.

*Question.... will the prop firm screw me over if I say I want to close my account? I mean, they legally have to give me my money back right? I have withdrawn money before, but never closed an account at a prop firm....*

If I don't have money, I don't have a prop account, I don't have happiness in life because trading is my life, and I still don't have the hot girl, so I only got the trading to work with.

So I'm going to pray that when I wake up in the next few hours, that I will turn on my computer, and Laser will work, and I can finally trade :D *how is that for an optimistic outlook*

They have a proverb in Brasil:

"Money doesn't buy happiness: it has someone else go buy it for you".

If money doesn't make you happy, at least you can be miserable in comfort.

    Or:

Anyone who thinks money can't buy you happiness, doesn't know where to shop!

    Or:

Money certainly makes my wife happy!

  8. to quote the great wise man ...denis leary

"I'm just not happy. I'm just not happy. I'm just not happy because my life didn't turn out the way I thought it would." (said in a mockingly voice)

Hey! Join the ****ing club, ok? I thought I was going to be the starting center fielder for the Boston Red Sox. Life sucks; get a ****ing helmet.

"I'm not happy. I'm not happy."

Nobody's happy, ok? Happiness comes in small doses folks. It's a cigarette, or a chocolate cookie, or a five second orgasm. That's it. You cum, you eat the cookie, you smoke the butt, you go to sleep, you get up in the morning and go to ****ing work. That is it. End of ****ing list.

  10. Although I have read some quality posts on the subject, this one rings truest.

Its not having what you want, its wanting what you got.

Every one prays for this, prays for that, wants this, wants that.

I feel it serves a person more spiritually and psychologically to have thoughts of gratitude. There is so much to be thankful for rich or poor. Healthy kids, a solid and loving relationship, being able to pursue your passion. Finding meaning in your life.

Money can not buy these things. You may make it and look back and be thankful for the steps and trials and other experiences you had to go through to arrive where you are today, but its not the money that is making you happy. Its the satisfaction of the achievement in that arena.

You can have all the money you will ever need, but if you don't have a meaning in your life its empty and just sits there, or is spent on designer love.

Those of you that think that the physical possession of fiat currency is the end all of self worth or "Happiness" then I say to you "who are you?" cause it really seems you don't know yourself. It seems that the people that believe this know them selves only as money. Everything bought with that money soon owns more and more of your soul.

Now I'm not saying money is evil, but I am saying to respect it for what it is.. Ego paper, and to guard against its complete consumption of your life or be your focal point of happiness.

I'm grateful today for this thread reminding me what really matters in life.
