Momoa is exactly right, gyms are boring.

There's that word again: "bored." But we've already dealt with that one (you're doing too long and not hard enough).

And now "unproductive"?! Where does it end?

I would argue that, depending on the objective, the kind of exercise you would find boring (because you didn't do it hard enough :p) is actually more productive. Again, depending on the objective.

Considering that building lean muscle protects against Alzheimer's disease:

    https://studyfinds.org/lean-muscle-protects-alzheimers/

And that muscle mass is arguably regarded as a new vital sign:

And that the level of skeletal muscle is associated with lower blood pressure:

And that the level of skeletal musculature you have is a major determinant in survival to ICU discharge:

Against this background, what would be the most productive and efficient manner to go about addressing these considerations and building up the entire body's musculature for the benefits of mobility, longevity and general health?

    DOUBLE SIGH :)

You don't live longer, it just feels longer in the Gym.

Of course I'm mixing stuff up a bit, I'm quite solitary so I especially hate public gyms. I just ordered bone conductive headphones for swimming to get through some audiobooks and and also to try swimming to a metronome.. Just to see what that's like really.

But that's in my own pool that I built. Do you have a pool? Maybe you need to build one! ;)

Productive to me is a philosophical thing, I make a product that will somewhat outlast me. I could be as fit as anything and hit by a bus or slip on a wet tile tomorrow.

OK, I'm unnecessarily wealthy but I can absolutely make a living from my tinkering too. Harrison Ford was a set carpenter.

I'm just over 50 and we are moving into a phase where AI will make a lot of people who use their grey matter only unemployed. I get it's a bit of a stereotype though, turn 50 and start to consider a new 'productive' career.

So, FF, do you build things and is that because you are a genuinely disinterested or just would not know where to start? I find men in north America think it's all about a power tool for everything. You can go to an antiques store and buy hand planes and all sorts that are at doorstop prices.

    There's plenty of competition too.

There may be some parallels in the obsessions..

One barrier of course to projects is learning how to value your work. I make stuff and give it away, would have no room otherwise but I have numerous friends who insist on paying. They always pick things that look simple but are not and either involve hard to find components (time) or just take a long time however don't appear so or are questionably worth the price for the functionality vs Chinese stuff.

I can't say I have an answer to this and it tends to make you do silly stuff like I've done sometimes. For example I went through a phase forging meteor iron knives (a few) which costing a fortune in materials made 5-10k a piece seem fair. But I learned to pattern better by hand and now I just make cool forged ones out (still-high end) commercial stock. For five thousand to ten.

  4. Loved the video. :D

Truth is, I'm not much of a DIYer, and so I'm not drawn to it. We tend to gravitate towards what we're good at. That's why I'm still ambling aimlessly.

P.S. I had a pool, but the air went out of it. To make matters worse, I misplaced my bicycle pump.

The video gave me an idea, Momoa method is "love making and woodworking" :)

As Feynman said, nearly anything is interesting if you get into it deeply enough (except the gym, it just makes you boring to match!).

If you read the post above just made, I had to over fix it. Hands again, this time a tremble from drinking too many pink Barbie drinks last night.. Turns out that cream and watermelon will almost completely mask neat absinth and sambuca. It hurts.

    I know!

Fecking Barbie is everywhere here, I guess everywhere everywhere.

I guess people are always just seeking something to help make up for their lack of personality eh?

But with a bottom like that..

Well, I only work out when I feel like it and I enjoy it. Mostly when I can not find a tennis partner or there is no water nearby. Have you considered that people actually enjoy going to the gym?

I do have a little home gym but mostly free weights what I use. The point again, one doesn't need a gym membership. They would probably kick me out anyway for staring at the ladies. :)
