Yet, a line needs to be drawn via using the information from Baron's own Conduct Rules policy. http://www.elitetrader.com/conduct_rules.cfm Also, I've talked to a few of ET advertisers and sponsors in the recent past because some are members of ET and members elsewhere at other forums. They notice the junk too and are a little concerned but not to the point where they have completely gone elsewhere because they are still here. However, I'm also noticing them advertising at other online locations (e.g. smaller forums, popular blogs, well moderated chat rooms et cetera). Places I hadn't seen them advertise at in the past. Could they be starting to draw their own line or do they have that much more money to spend on advertising. On a different not from the advertising issue...I still remember when I first joined ET after 911. The first month alone I got about 7 private messages (hate mail) by a few popular ET members and a few seldom posters telling me to get lost (I'm not going to repeat their exact racist words although I still have the pms and emails).... They thought I was Muslim via my choice of the user name NihabaAshi. Two members went as far as to locate me at another forum and started harassing me via pm and they made it clear not to return to ET. That crap slowed over the years but only after many found out I was not Muslim... Along with finding out that I'm a former Army Ranger that selected the name NihabaAshi because its a Japanese Candlestick and Martial Arts term. Yet, I still get a message once in a full moon by another ET member curious if I am Muslim. A line needs to be drawn...crap not tolerated even though the same individuals will just change their user ID's to repackage the same racist crap. Note: A few times I contacted Baron directly in the past about two members concerning racist remarks... He did ban them immediately along with deleting their messages from the open forum. Harold, The issue is not just how a board is moderated (strict or less strict) after someone joins... There's the issue of selection prior to allowing someone walk through the door and the issue of putting a face on members as they walk through that door. To some...being anonymous empowers them to do whatever they want. Simply, there is no selection/screening process and I think ET can benefit from having such in place prior to allowing someone walk through that door... Prior to the very first message. Yet, reality is that ET is a revenue source for Baron and for his advertisers/sponsers. Until that flow of revenue is changed dramatically... There's no incentive for Baron to fix things unless he determines it will in fact increase his revenue. Mark
To me the question of keeping racist posts off the site in general is a separate one from the Publisher problem. In this case, Baron made a promise to keep him off the boards. The next day, he had 9 threads up in P & R and was page-botting them to beat the band. The oldest ones were 16 hours old when I came across them. Were the mods not informed? Were there no mods around for that 16-hour stretch? This may be and if so, it would be nice if Baron could say so. After Baron's promise, the next 48 hours saw Publisher work unimpeded under his newest aliases.
Not talking shit but that one guy from leveragefx or whatever posted gay porn on the trading forum and it stayed up overnight even after multiple complaints. I think it's a matter of just not having coverage at certain times, as it got removed promptly in the a.m.
LOL They must've not spent too much time around Muslims, NihabaAshi doesn't even sound Muslim to me... But I do admire those peoples' patriotism for sending those emails. God bless 'em. I think that shit's hardcore and I respect it, although in this case it was a little misdirected.
I myself don't approve nor respect any racist contacting ET members via pm nor email to vomit their crap based upon a user name someone selected and nothing else. That's not only an ignorant racist but the type of racist that gives patriotism an ugly word and is an abuse of freedom of speech along with an abuse of Baron's Code of Conduct rules. In fact, it's also criminal conduct in about 40 states of the U.S. and all of Canada once they start contacting folks by emails or pms and there are cases of people being prosecuted and convicted for such crimes although I'm not aware of any at ET member being convicted of such type of hate crime. I guess the racists haven't sent their vomit via email or pm to an ET member that's a lawyer or to someone that has the resources or knows how to use the legal system to quickly give Baron restless nights. Yet, most well known cases involves students at private universities being arrested, expelled and kicked out of school for using University property (campus computer or campus internet connection) to send racist hate mail via email, private message or forums to other students. Back to patriotism, I've seen a few of the types in the military and folks on base had hardcore ways of showing the racists what happens when they hide under patriotism. As I mention to hcour before and back on topic... The issue isn't solely just moderators, it's also the registration process in that it lacks putting a face on those that register at ET. This allows for racists, spammers, shills, trolls, stalkers and other problematic members to easily reinvent themselves after they were given a kick out the back door where the trash is put. It's amazing how folks behave themselves or go elsewhere when you take the hoods off their heads sort'uv speak to reveal their identity because you now have a way to hold them accountable for their actions. He has for me every time I contacted him directly (I didn't use feedback thread) about such after I pointed him directly to the offending comments. That tells me a lot about him.
