Missed opportunities

  1. Unfortunately you can't catch all the good trades. Journal it and move on to the next trade :)

That's a good idea, actually. Always lead a detailed journal of your own trading - it helps with analyzing one's own mistakes in the long run.

It is common to think that trading is a male world by nature, powerful men with their gray suits and their big black cars. Do stereotypes serve? This it is a good question.

The truth is that I was seriously thinking the other day about how much appropiate is the trading for the Female world and I was surprised! Why I don’t see a lot of women when the fact is it would give them high successful probabilities!

Why not to offer the opportunity to the women?

I can't speak for all women, but most of the times I have attended trading groups, there is some man there who volunteers, without my asking, to 'advise' me. I don't think it's a pickup thing; I am too old for that. If I am attending a group for the first time, they simply assume that I am ignorant or intimidated. In truth, it's usually me who should be teaching them, but no matter.

I do brush things like this off, but I assure you that many other women would be pissed off and never return. We are, in general, sick of the tacit assumptions that we are less intelligent, less able, more timid, etc. These little presumptions happen to us every day in subtle ways. I know they are usually kindly meant, so I try not to take them too seriously.

I'm still laughing about the time (years ago) when I admired Bob Pisani in a post on this board, and someone responded by asking me if I were gay. It never occurred to the person I might be female.

In one of the trading groups I attended, I met several new mothers who were chatting about trading iron condors between changing diapers. So, I'm thinking the women are out there, but are just not forthcoming about their presence, or perhaps they are too busy doing other things to interact with other traders.

Well said. I so agree. I think the way we talk to ourselves is key. I am still working on it. I am much nicer to myself than I used to be and more aware of it all, and it helps.

I had to chime in! This is funny (or not so)! I can relate, but I must say in the meetups I go to there are women there, although in the minority. It helps that I run the group! :) It is definitely a male dominated field with a lot of assumptions, and sometimes I just smile and listen. There are trader women, you just have to find them. . .

Been there before. My worse one was a 400% intraday gain on a single stock. I sold it too soon at a loss than it just kept climbing from there. Was too chickened out into chasing and ofc by the time I finally decided to jump in again it was already too late.
