Misery Index soaring under Obama

Discussion in 'Politics' started by bugscoe, Sep 24, 2010.

  1. Both parties supported the TARP and automaker bailouts, however as you can see from the graph that I posted previously that was only part of the massive deficit expenditures -- the Republican catastrophe was that the Republicans got everything they asked for -- tax decreases, wars on the other side of the planet, and so forth.

Right now, for example, the Republicans have come out with their "Pledge To America" and interviewers have asked individual Republicans what areas they would cut, and they cannot answer.

  2. Not to argue with the respected information source "Wikipedia" but the numbers there are entirely incorrect. Once again, the calculation methods for unemployment in particular changed massively (twice) since Carter. Using the same calculations Bush II easily exceeded Carter's misery index with about a 27. If you review my posts you'll see the link to the ShadowStats site where you can review the pre-1990 numbers, the SGS numbers and the current calculations.

  3. You're absolutely correct that many Democrats voted for war funding after the troops were in Iraq. However, again, that was not introduced by the Democrats, nor introduced by congress, but by the Republican party.

I'm sorry that my credibility is hurt by stating facts, but I'm not surprised.

  4. And "so forth"? How much was the "so forth"?

And please explain how a tax cut is an expenditure to the government? I didn't know the gov was in the business of paying American citizens- I thought it was the other way around?

  5. Please read through the thread and examine the graphs that I've posted, and posted links to. The first details the breakdown of what expenditures the deficit consists of, and the second link to the CBO details by simply clicking on the expenditure changes, how the deficit projections change.

A tax cut without corresponding reductions in spending is an "unpaid-for" tax cut which is simply billed to your children, put on the national credit card, and is irresponsible.

  7. Apparently I've triggered some Iraq war fight or flight response in you. The expenditures that contributed to the deficit were funding expenditures and were passed after the Iraq war started. The Republicans passed them as "emergency expenditures" and they were off-budget. Obama has reincorporated them into the budget to have a more accurate picture of the deficit.

  8. The spending is what's irresponsible. Period.

    didn't you mention the wars?
So not a single democrat voted for these? And you're saying the ONLY spending that busted the budget was war spending?
At least that buffoon has done something right.

  10. Ah, so spending on the military should be cut to zero, because it's your words "irresponsible." I don't agree. I believe that spending on the military is fine, within limits, as long as it isn't deficit spending and the taxes are kept high enough to cover the costs.
