mini Gold

Discussion in 'Commodity Futures' started by trader60611, Dec 31, 2003.

  1. I am unfamiliar with the mini Gold (CBOT ) contract but as I look at the Jan,Feb,March and April daily charts(all for 2004) in Tradestation, March looks totally empty, while both Feb and April are populated by full bars. Is there a reason for this?
    Many thanks for your help...

Contracts in Jan and Mar are either non-existent or extremely thinly traded. You should stick to the months with the greatest open interest, greatest volume and smallest spread

  3. Thank you so much for your help. Would he highest volume months be February, April, August, and October ? Or is there some rule to go by?

I just make the decision as I need to.

For example, I am currently long Feb gold. In mid to late January, I will decide which contract to buy based on the three factors above.

  5. Thanks again for this great info. I will check the factors you mentioned before any trades.

most specs will rollover to APR 04 just before first notice day

Are there "standard" contract months that are highly populated?
    Thank again,
