Mini Dow Trading Begins Today

Discussion in 'Index Futures' started by tymjr, Oct 1, 2001.

  1. Presumably there will be more interest when the masses get access to reliable quotes and real-time charts. It looks like the exchange has done a really poor job promoting it when sources such as quote.com have not been made aware of it and don't carry the quotes.

  4. If my experience has any value, first day volume means nothing.
    Wait a bit.....

  5. Is anyone aware if the e-mini dow will have free real time quotes available for six months like the e-mini S&P and NAS?

    To all traders,

Stay away from the Dow mini !!!
    Why ?

Well, the average spread from what I have
seen is 10 points and let's assume an
average daily trading range of 150 points
    that's 10/150 = 6.6 %
    In comparison with E-mini S&P 500
average spread = .25 and average daily range
    20 points that's .25 / 20 = 1.25 %
SO ,conclusion the Dow mini is an expensive
    contract to trade.
Everything is relative, the spread is just too
high in comparison to the daily trading range.
If you limit yourself to just 1 or 2 trades
per day , then you have a chance.
For swingtrading also no problem but not for
    pure daytrading
    Hope everybody gets this....

Regrettably, it doesn't look like the Dow Mini Futures contract is free on Live Charts. I'm showing a 10 minute delay; I haven't paid the CBOT exchange fees.

But if you want to follow it and evaluate its growth, you can find it under symbol CBOT:YJ01Z.

I did notice on their website, they've reduced their transaction fees to $.05 for members and $1.00 for nonmembers. I don't know how this compares with CME fees, but at least it looks like a step towards bringing in some liquidity to these contracts.

As I write this, volume is 159 contracts for the day, with 129 ticks, so it's mostly....almost only.... 1 lot trades that are going off.

  10. Hey Sabena

I thought you were going out of business:)

You are right now there is no way you can daytrade this thing, there is hardly anything to see on a 5min chart anyway.
