I hear you. Sure, there is still racism ... but it's a 2 way street. I don't think we need the constant press, such as the photo op the 1st lady shown here. I've seen firsthand how young people respond to poverty and many of them having a crappy home life. In my 13 years volunteering with elementary school kids I've worked with white (5%), black (88%) and Hispanic (7%) mainly. Observations, and no bias based on race, but the black kids are on average the worst behaved and the Hispanic probably the best. No idea how many are illegal versus legal but many truly want to learn. Regardless of race probably 50-60% of these kids are on meds. You often hear that inner city, high poverty schools are crappy. I don't tend to agree. Facilities may be worse than more affluent areas but the dollars per student spent are more, plenty of tutoring available. Biggest issue is crappy home life and most of the time a single parent (or grandparent) household. Rarely does the parent/guardian come to a parent-teacher conference. Transient kids .. they just up and disappear from school, apparently moving yet again. Plenty live in fleabag motels. However, there are a very small percentage who actually get it that education is their ticket out of poverty. But no one can go through life bitching and moaning about the bad hand they've been dealt .. they have to find a way to move past having parent(s) who often don't care. So to Michelle Obama I say .... "we don't need constant reminders of how schools were 60 years ago". And as far as her implying some schools are heading back to being segregated maybe she needs to think about the fact that people who can move to the suburbs, or away from high risk areas, are doing so and unfortunately that often leaves a mainly African American community behind.

  2. Racism (the belief that one race is superior to another) is one of those things that will never end and to even try to end it is silly. Naturally, some people are gonna have prejudices. That's just human nature. You can't force everyone to like each other and that's what these race baiters are trying to do. Just as long as no group's racist believes motivates them to oppress another group (racially-motivated oppression which the left has mistakenly referred to as racism), which is what we had during the Jim Crow era.

Also, the whole notion about poverty causing crime in the black community is a crock. I grew up in areas in which people sold dope and shot and killed each other everyday. Believe me when I tell you that hardly any of their crimes had anything to do with poverty. The crime in black America is 99% based on the inability of most blacks to conflict resolve, their high level of emotions and their lack of morals. Why bother having morals when you can blame any dysfunction on slavery and racism? I've seen guys get shot just for bumping into someone or for looking at someone the wrong way. That doesn't sound like poverty, to me. Stealing food and clothes to feed your family is what you'd expect to see from a group who claims to commit crime over poverty but no...you see a bunch of senseless killing over petty conflicts. Killing someone over a dirty look, over a big butt heffa, for their pair of Air Jordan tennis shoes, because they live on a different side of town, etc.

There is nothing silly about Man working to defeat his baser instincts.

  4. Black people in large part have been taught that having to work hard is somehow unfair and discriminatory. They somehow believe that slavery built America and for that reason, they should never have to work again...even though they weren't slaves themselves. I remember hearing this rhetoric when I was growing up. However, the moment I threw off the victim consciousness and began to embrace education, morals and hard work while also turning my back on ignorance, I immediately became a sellout, Uncle Tom, etc. That's the mindset is black America...that any black MAN who makes it through anything other than music or sports is a sellout, but they don't call black women who succeed in prestigious fields such names.

  5. LOL. Going the lengths to which people have gone isn't silly? Providing a bunch of disinformation and revised history that does nothing but breed hatred in order to "end racism" isn't silly?

  8. Of course but it doesn't apply in this case. How are you going to force people to not hold prejudices though? The attempt it noble but unfortunately their approach has done nothing but lead to reverse racism. I would be cool with a fight against racism if this fight targeted every group, but so far, the fight against racism is nothing more than a witch hunt against white males. It's created also a double standard in our society. Blacks can be openly and blatantly racist towards other groups but those groups risk losing everything if they say anything about blacks. ..even a sincere critique can cause backlash.

My point: if we are going to talk about uniting people and erasing racial prejudice, it has to apply to everyone instead of focusing solely on white males.

You're not. But prejudices are learned. If one stops teaching one's children intolerance and hatred, progress can be made.

As long as Southerners continue to view "nigras" as property that was unlawfully taken from them, this problem will continue.

You can't force it, but when and if I detect a racist in my business, I'll fire 'em. Which is why our people, highly diverse, yet possibly containing secret racists of all types, get along and make a tidy living for all. We have an organizing principle. Over time though, since racist behavior is not rewarded with resources, their DNA will not be passed on. :D Cooperation is our future. The children of our "black" and muslim engineers, draftsmen, and bean counters are going to college--they will outdo their parents.

I grew up with Star Trek, you see.
