Heh, looks like they're running an inflation rate of >50%!? So, you'd actually be LOSING 30% a year. http://www.bancentral.gov.do/estadisticas_economicas/precios/ipc_anual.xls
If the value of the dollar falls, the value of the Mexican paper, and its currency could fall even further. The relative value of the Dollar to a particular currency, is separate issue from the valve of Dollar to the Dollar index. The only thing worth buying from Mexico is Tequila...the race to the worm.... PS, REAL Tequila, not the artificial junk... What is the name of the plant for the REAL Tequila?
I wouldn't short sell Mexico. There's a real estate boom underway, interest rates are dropping, GDP is going up, NAFTA has made foreign investment possible, and they have oil to sell. The Mexican stock market is on a tear. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_48/b3961161.htm http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=MXF,uu[l,a]waclyiay[df][pb40!b200][vc60][iLg21]&pref=G
Here in Costa Rica I can get you 18-20% bonds in the blink of an eye.......might i add inflation is 15+% and the country rating is "BB". i would touch anything down here. Mexico is pretty stable, but you will probabbly get whacked somewhere, Foreign commissions, foreign taxes, setting up a mexican account.....who knows.
Fishing for yield usually hooks a Carp. At first glance it looks good, but soon stinks and is uneatable to most cultures. I guess you could say bottom fishers get sucked in along with the rest of the dung that bottom fish thrive on. Best advice is to buy the safe stuff and get a good nights sleep.
