Yes, I read that somewhere as well. I had even come across that information while I was still exceeding well over an hour during my twice weekly workouts. (Don't even ask about my split routine during the '90s and early 2000s!) It has taken some time to sink in, given that I was brought up reading how the big BB guys' workouts encompassed all kinds of volume. Of course I knew that they were juicing it up and that doing so aids recovery and so on, but even so I just held on to this irrational belief that more was better. The hour maximum rule you mentioned seemed arbitrary when I first came across it, but I have come to believe that it's probably a very good benchmark.

Just as an update, the past two weeks have been hit or miss for me in the workout department because of my leg surgery. Out of the twelve workouts during that period, I missed about half of them. And even when I did work out, it was one set per exercise and that was it.

I just got my right leg done yesterday, so I will be doing the same half-assed workouts during the upcoming couple weeks as well. It's very frustrating but it's all for the best. All I know is that my birthday (Sept. 21st) is coming quick so I will need pull myself together quick for my annual pool party birthday bash :D

You will need to define what "look really good" means to you. With P90x, you'll get rid of some fat, but you're not going to put on much muscle. Even if you look at the before/after pictures on their web site, you'll see that most people just lot fat for the most part.

Yeah, it's a nuisance when you have to take time out from workouts, or compromise them, because of necessity rather than because it feels right. But not to worry, as I'm sure you know you'll be back on track in and good form by your birthday. I note you still haven't committed one way or the other as to whether you'll give pistol squats a genuine try. Not just yet, of course, but when you are sufficiently recovered from your surgery.

  6. that makes sense as i understand it to just use a set of dumbells, your monster build obviously takes heavy lifting.

looking good to me is just looking, lean and "in shape" can take your shirt off and not look like average joe.

At your height and weight, you will look emaciated if you just try to lose fat (because you will also lose some muscle in the process). You need to start on an agressive weight lifting and high protein diet program to get your weight up to 190+ before you can even think about getting lean.

Best way to get lean is by increasing muscle mass, thereby enhancing metabolism. Best way to increase muscle mass is with resistance exercise, which elevates resting metabolism for many hours after completion of the workout, unlike aerobic activity. Of course, without a proper dietary regimen, you might as well be washing a car with puddle water and a dirty rag.
