Canada welcomes Silicon Valley firms to relocate to our country if they want. We already have a decent IT infrastructure in Waterloo and some firms are relocating some of their operations or investment money in that location. Trump is scaring off some people from the US. Many skilled immigrants like Canada and we are more accepting of them then Trump's America.
I do agree with the merit based and I do agree that our loss has often been the gain of other countries. You are welcome. At the same time, I point out that the United States is a global power- not just a regional player like Canada and some of what seems to be a mistaken policy in the past was actually in support of educating future leaders and then having them go back to their home countries or lesser developed countries to uplift their economy or political situation and function as non-wackos. In many instances that was and continues to be win/win rather than "our gain/your loss" type of scenario. But in recent years we have had many come without regard to their skills or disposition or interest in being American or any type of civilized person. They are our loss and if you get them they are your loss too. Canadians and Australians for example already know this because they have purposely set their immigration policies in accordance with what Trump proposes, although it is an inconvenient truth for the lefties. So the discussions that go with skilled and educated workers are one thing. The integration of "uninvited guests" without language skills, education, or means of supporting themselves is quite another. There is room for some of them under select circumstances but it can't be our whole frigging policy as it is now. You know the entire country of Venezuela is collapsing and guess where many of them want to go. Let them pass unobstructed through the US to Canada. Trudeau says he will take everyone unlike the American neanderthals, when in fact we have been taking everyone and they are getting panicky over a few hundred that have crossed into Canada. If we arrest someone from a dangerous country like El Salvador, deport them to Canada rather than sending back to a dangerous country. We will see if that is our loss and their gain.
As it happens a friend of mine is a James Jones.. he likes Flavor Aid though it is really hot here and that does sound good. Whenever I point out to Americans that the statistics show they are not special or greatly needed they freak. It really rubs that old brainwashing the wrong way. They never counter argue with facts, they just don't like being made to feel unimportant. Awww... well we are traders and supposed to be steely eyed missile men, we should be able to face uncomfortable facts and argue the merits either way.. but predictable and boring responses are all you get from both cons and dems. I'm just positing the idea of denying the US the human assets it has grown too fat and rich on. Just say no to the US kind of thing? See how it goes. I myself was recruited to an ivy league, partial scholarship. It is a scam that the world needs to wake up to, the US is mostly squandering the intellectual resources of humanity. Instead of curing a form of cancer you can bet some genius foreign kid is taking a far higher salary to cure erectile dysfunction in pet dogs instead for a US owned corporation. Carlin said it best, the (US) public sucks. It is not the politicians fault, they (the political classes) come from you guys, not from another dimension. The reason the presidential race in 2016 was stocked with just awful candidates is... that is the best you could come up with as a nation. Why keep throwing pearls to swine as it were? The world can stop drinking the-US-gives-more-than-it-takes "Kool-Aid" for a change and tell the kids to work for their own nations?
Bernie on immigration and taking away low pay jobs. I am between a rock and a hard place on this issue. On one hand, I agree with Bernie. On the other, whom of the overwhelming immigrants in the past that built this country would have made it to the USA under the Trump policy? Notice the three people in the mix towards the end!
It is the defining issue of our time. You are either with the working class of our country or not. The law of supply and demand does not recognize politics.
