I also think there is not enough outrage at the appaling training police receive before being given a license to kill and sent out on the streets. No to mention not enough adequate screening to weed out those who should never become cops..
There is, it's just immediately drowned out by cons "woe is me" outrage of "this is what defunding looks like", and "we have a staffing crisis, you're making it impossible to find recruits; why do you want anarchy you communist!?"
In that same vein, it is often found that bad apples with serious prior complaints are being "carried" without being removed. That is an area where higher command can be/is either part of the problem or part of the solution. As I said, to GWB, I don't know. And I don't know the history of the department. Just do an independent investigation. I am not handing out medals to police chiefs just yet as some are for their taking mop up action. But if -upon investigation- things have been in a state of improvement I have no problem with a person holding up well under examination and receiving whatever credit is due. I have heard two supposed pundits say that that the "Scorpion Team" was known to be a rogue unit. I have absofrigginglutely no way of knowing one way or the other if that is true. Let the circumstances be reviewed.
Its sad that we know about the bad cops and the bad training and bad authority and do nothing about it.When Dems passed the George Floyd reform bill which didn't even go nearly far enough every republican republican in The House opposed it and The GOP used raccoon Uncle Tom Tim Scott as the face of GOP opposition in The Senate. Republicans are most at fault for police brutality in this country.
Whites are a small minority in Memphis. They hold very little power in the Governing of Memphis. Like most cities the Memphis police are majority Black Yet you blame Whites for this You are a racist
And thats not necessarily true. The outcome for resisting is usually vastly different for one group than the other
Y’all are talking about everything but the truth when it comes to the overarching policing and racial issues. The truth is 1. It’s all about poverty. For whatever reason and we can get into that if y’all want black Americans disproportionately are poor and live in poor neighborhoods. This has been status quo since reconstruction. The higher the poverty rate, the higher crime rate. That’s a fact. It’s not about race at all it’s about poverty. 2. America has become a much more difficult country to police because of the amount of guns in the country. It affects all areas of policing. I know this because I have police in my immediate family. A car stop, a disturbance call, a drunk and disorderly call, all of it has to be treated as though there is a gun present until it known to be not. Police have to take more affirmative postures when engaging with suspects because they are trained to. It’s better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. This SCORPION unit was created because of the spike in homicides and gun violence In Memphis. Which of course correlates with the spike in guns in America. It is an aggressive unit in a high poverty, high crime area and it takes an affirmative posture when engaging suspects. And of course these are the results. The point is that policing is hard in America and we are not actually supporting police. We are asking too much of police. If we wanted to support police we would address the poverty issue and gun issue. Now with that said, it is obvious these police killed this guy Memphis with their brutality and indifference and lack of care when in custody. The whole thing is a damn shame just as many before and the many to come.
