  2. I wonder if Liberal “Catch and release” policies are causing frustration on the part of certain officers that causes them to feel compelled to dish out a little street justice before taking the suspect in. I am not suggesting this should be “Unofficial” policy, rather I am trying to understand why, after all the media attention on police abuse, these officers seemed comfortable in beating this suspect. Then again, is it not public knowledge by now that committing a crime and resisting arrest entails certain personal risks? Is it possible that certain members of the community are reasonably fearful of the police, or at least the “Task force” in question, leading to their risky “Defensive” actions? Not trying to justify the suspects actions, rather trying to understand why the suspect apparently felt compelled to drive home rather than pulling over. Oh well, let Darwin sort them out, whether it is officers or criminals, I suppose.

Looking at the video, it was notable to me the officers showed neglect or inefficiency in restraining the suspect. Is not the number one priority, after officer safety considerations of course, when making an arrest, is to immobilize the suspect in order to handcuff him? Has that been done, the suspect would have been still alive and 5+ officers would not be facing criminal charges.

I remember reading an article ten plus years ago discussing the psychological effects a chase or suspect non compliance can have on officers. Some officers can get “Amped” up and become in a much more aggressive “Fight” mode that can override their training. But five officers being affected? Seems like a herd mentality took over.

I remember reading a book written by a private investigator, who may have been an officer himself, said there are definitely “Bent” officers on most police forces.

It seems reasonable to conclude there are significant deficiencies in initial and or periodic training of Memphis police officers, likely including screening challenges when hiring officers (Although the recruiting pool may be small as presumably many may not want to officers in the current political environment). If the police officer hiring pool is a constraint in finding qualified officers, then it becomes a legislative and perhaps a media matter. The key for effecting positive changes in police enforcement is understanding in detail the motivations of all parties concerned and addressing those motivations appropriately.

  3. This is true.

One of the problems is that many officers are unclear or disadvantaged on how to handcuff a resisting person these days. Sounds simplistic to say but it is the case.

After George Floyd, most cities/states enacted laws/policies against putting pressure on a person's neck. So far so good. Floyd's situation was reprehensible.

Where it gets problematic is that many policies then went on to prohibit putting any pressure on a person's torso while handcuffing. So in the past the usual procedure was to get them flat on the ground and if they resisted, put weight on their body, and then complete the handcuffing. But now you just have this ridiculous situation where the officers just bark at the person louder and louder if they will not stay down on the ground- and then- as in this case they get up and run.

any bootlicking excuse to justify atrocious police behavior with the guise of "new politics", "defunding", or "rogue DA's" neglects decades of police abuse and ignores actual police budget increases and the rise of accountability tech (body cameras and cell phones).

So the media has shifted back to police brutality mode. Over the next 6 months the media will dig up every one of these cases and we are going to be inundated with it.

    It is textbook manipulation.

  6. A Liberal using the word “Accountability”? I’d like it, but it seems “Accountability” only goes one way with you people.

At least I didn’t to a CNN style hit-job on the “Victims”. Yes, plural. Plural, in a meta-sense, anyway.

To gaslight or not to gaslight, that is the question. White guilt, anyone? Grin. Convertability, where art thou?

  8. No one, especially the Left, is actually looking for solutions. It is about gaslighting their base to vote. Same issues, new election cycle, ad infinitum.
