  3. Yeh, okay. We were asking too much of the police in this scenario in Memphis.

Try going out on the streets before the crowds there and make that case.

You are well into the Kool-Aid Zone on that one.

    FAIL.

This is another case of black on black shooting. In Chicago, black on black shootings weekly, average about 60 killed and most of the victims are blacks shot by other black. No BLM arson, looting, riots. In this case, police who were all black were the supposed culprits. Had the victim not died, this would not have been a big deal. If the police were all white, it would now be classified as racism and they would have the book, plus the kitchen sink and bathtub thrown at them in full force in criminal charges.

  6. The old go-to responses that the left went to in such instances no longer work or at least leave many people scratching their heads.

The response has always been "that's why we need to get whitey out of power and when we have more minorities at the top these problems will go away."

But you have Chicago with a black mayor and a black police chief etc. And Memphis with a black mayor, black police chief, majority black city council, probably a majority black police force, and a majority black resident population.

It has left many bewildered because they do not have a script to turn to at this time.

Biden can only bang on the skin color thing and provides no understanding. He says that Memphis "shows what black and brown people face everyday from law enforcement." Yeh okay, but tell us why that is Joe. Why are they still facing it from their "own people." They are bewildered and looking to you as Chief Provider of Scripts. Joe can talk about MAGA and Charlestown and that is why he allegedly entered the presidential race to the point where you puke rom hearing to so many times. But offers little at this time- probably have more prepared material from his handlers soon.

Or how about Kamala. The Chief Locker-Upper of Black People when she was the prosecutor in San Fransicko. Has she been dispatched to help people make sense of this? A lot of the "what black people face everyday from law enforcement" that Biden refers to, they faced from Kamala in S.F.

He was a strong supporter of statutory reforms. These reforms were strongly opposed by the police unions, and Congressional Republicans. Biden never wavered on his support for the George Floyd Legislation. Trump, on the other hand, said we would veto the proposed reforms. The difference between Biden and Trump on Police reform is like the difference between day and night.

So if you plan to vote for Trump because you think Biden didn't do anything to get police reform through Congress, you might be shooting yourself in the foot. Those in the BLM movement calling for defunding the police were really proposing a repurposing of some of the funds that are now being used for policing. This made sense. They wanted a different kind of policing. This got misinterpreted by the public however. "Defund[ing] the Police" was a badly misunderstood. It was therefore a counterproductive slogan. I'm quite sure Biden recognized how the public was reacting to the slogan. Like many, he thought we needed better trained police held to higher standards. Biden pushed hard to get the George Floyd legislation passed, but since it couldn't be attached to a reconciliation bill, it was going to be subject to the filibuster.

Politics often turns on easily remembered slogans that evoke strong public responses --- "It Takes a Village," "Just Say No", "Stop the Steal, "Make America Great Again," "Defund the Police" --- unfortunately, slogans are seldom an adequate way of conveying complex solutions to complex problems.

My own position on this is different from Biden's. I think the fundamental problem stems from the kind of ex-military people we are hiring to do police work. We should not only pass the George Floyd legislation intact, but in addition require all police to have a four year college education, hire half as many, give them far better training, and pay them twice as much. We should also break the connections between fines and police funding.

I can't agree with those that say the answer to crime is to hire more cops. Instead, I believe we need fewer, higher paid, better educated and better trained cops. Education improves one's judgement. The cops patrolling our streets need a big dose of better judgement. It is said that there are just a few bad apples among our cops. From my vantage point, however, it looks like there may be at least as many bad apples as good ones, at least among our cops on the street. Could it be that the criteria we use in hiring police selects for bad apples?

Biden wants to give over 30 billion to police and hire thousands more cops.30 billion to police and thousands more uneducated poorly trained new cops with know reform attached will lead to more police brutality,I cant vote for that.He should have been honest and told people that was his plan during the George Floyd protest.
