Ouch... whether it is true or not.... this type of claim is likely to lead to more attacks & abuse against anyone who is HIV positive.

I mentioned a few months ago a list of most likely sources to produce a Covid Variant of Concern.

Someone that's immuno-compromise because of another disease and being treated for that disease with antiviral therapeutic treatment was at the top of the list. This implies the other disease is not stable (its active) in the immuno-compromise person.

In addition, someone that's vaccinated was the least probable source while those not vaccinated were among the top sources of probability to birth a Variant of Concern.

It will be interesting to know if the HIV person was also not vaccinated ???

We'll know more info in about a month after they release the findings in the vaccine research against Omicron.

This is an interesting take -- it is not supported by the huge majority of the scientific and medical communities -- but it actually leads to the next "logical" leap. Why not engineer a version of a virus in the lab which is highly infectious but has a very low severity -- and just let it spread then if it provides broad "natural immunity" to other variants. Of course this will bring up the entire "gain of function" ethics argument along with the reality that it would likely mutate into a variant that his highly infectious and very severe (which is actually the same reason you don't want Omicron running rampant).

A leading doctor says the apparent mild symptoms of the Omicron variant mean widespread community transmission should not be feared.

Currently, around 155 cases of Omicron have been recorded worldwide.

The strain, which was deemed "a variant of concern" by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Saturday, has spread to at least 12 countries so far including Australia, Israel, Germany, Italy and the UK.

Nick Coatsworth, a former federal deputy chief health officer, told Today the new variant could even displace the current dominant Delta variant.

"If this is milder than Delta, you actually want it to spread within your community," he said.

"You want it to out compete Delta and become the pro-dominant circulating virus ... it could be that we want Omicron to spread around the world as quickly as possible."

Covid vaccination fades quickly in the severely immunocompromised. Hence the need for boosters more often then others in the population. For some of these comprised individuals on immunosuppressant medicine appear to not have any protection at all from vaccination within days of the shot.

The unvaccinated across society are still much more likely to be variant factories than vaccinated immunocompromised individuals— at least most immunocompromised individuals have some protection for a period of time.

Some of that may be offset by the likelihood that the immunocompromised are more likely to contract COVID for a prolonged period of time, no?

Could be. I have not seen any studies or data on the average length of Covid infection for a unvaccinated person compared to a vaccinated immunocompromised person with an infection.
